The largest Chevrolet SUV is all-new. Now, when we know all about it, the company might update the upcoming 2022 Chevy Suburban. Still, there won’t be big changes. Special packages are always a cool option. But, there won’t be new trim levels. There are still a lot of options to configure the perfect SUV. Buyers will have three engines, two petrol and one diesel, and several trim levels. The base offer is nice, the mid-range offer makes the Suburban more equipped, and at the high end, you will choose between utility and luxury.
The company launched the next-gen of its largest model last year, after a delay. We expected to see the 12th generation in 2020. Luckily, the vehicle was launched before the pandemic. Chevrolet had a lot of problems with Equinox and Traverse fans. These two had premieres as all-new models, but the sales were postponed for 2022 YM. The 2022 Chevy Suburban is already a well-known SUV. The new styling is impressive. The class-leading interior storage is impressive. The vehicle is sharing everything with Chevrolet Tahoe. Well, the Suburban is the long-wheelbase version. Its rivals are Ford Expedition MAX and GMC Yukon XL. Soon, Jeep is about to launch Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, as standard and LWB full-size SUVs.
2022 Chevy Suburban Packages
The 2022 Chevrolet Suburban will be available in six trim levels. These are the great base for start. The standard edition is the LS and it comes with a weaker V8 engine. Still, there are nine seats, tri-zone climate control, and a 10-inch touchscreen as highlights of this bundle. The LT upgrades the comfort with leather upholstery. Premium features, such as Bose audio or wireless phone charger are making this choice one of the bests in the full-size segment. Let’s not forget to mention heated front buckets. The Premier model is adding even more of advanced features, such as ventilated seats, navigation, and more speakers.
The RST is more focused on the exterior. Already bold styling is getting aesthetic grille, blacked-out trims, and chrome details. The 2022 Chevy Suburban Z71 is going to make you an adventurer. The package is using 4×4 and adds off-road parts to make your ride going on smoothly even in the toughest weather and terrain conditions. Skidplates and tow hooks are added. The highlight of the exterior styling is a set of 20-inch wheels. The most luxurious offer comes with the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban High Country. The company is not saving on this one. A 6.2 engine is standard. More safety features are added, including parking sensors, HUD, and cameras. The 2022 update might bring the Super Cruise self-driving system as well. That would be a big thing.
Engines and Performance
The base offer includes a 5.3-liter V8 engine tuned to create 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. The eight-cylinder unit is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Power goes to the rear wheels. The new 2022 Chevy Suburban features an independent rear suspension. It will make the SUV tougher, no matter which powerplant you pick. For a long time, GM used a solid axle, which many experts considered as one of the biggest downsides of its large SUVs.
The vehicle also offers a larger, 6.2-liter V8 unit with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. It is the standard edition for Z71 and High Country, and optional for some other configurations. The same transmission and drive options are there too. In this case, the Suburban offers the maximum towing capacity. Still, the IRS won’t help catch up with Ford Expedition. It is the most capable SUV for hauling, with 9,300 pounds.
But, there is the final piece of the engine puzzle that can help. Duramax 3.0 turbodiesel can produce 260 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. On the Silverado 1500, this configuration helps the truck tow more than 9,500 pounds. It is far away from class leaders, but still better than the existing Suburban, or any other SUV can do. The oil-burner is also a fuel-saving option, with a mileage of 21/27 mpg, while the petrol units return 16/20 (5.3) and 15/20 (6.2).
2022 Chevy Suburban Prices
Since there are no big changes, and in 2022, General Motors is focused on electric vehicles, the Suburban is not going to rush with a debut. We could see the model for the next season late in 2021.
The price of the 2022 Chevy Suburban starts at $52,000. The mid-range models are recommended by experts. But, you will have to spend up to $60,000 for the LT or RST. If you are after the 4×4 specialist, the Z71 will be around $62,000 before you add packages. The High Country can be considered as the premium vehicle with the price starting over $72,000. If you add about $5,000, you can have the base version of the Cadillac Escalade, a luxury full-size SUV by the same company, which uses similar equipment, and a 6.2-liter V8 as the standard powerplant.
