12 Best 2021 Luxury SUVs

Buyers are usually willing to spend extra to get more features for their ride. But, the luxury segment is usually out of the reach. For example, SUVs by Porsche, Bentley, and Rolls-Royce are very expensive, as well as some high-end versions of some more affordable carmakers. On the other hand, there are carmakers such as Lexus, Volvo or Lincoln are going to offer cool features and engines at reasonable prices.

We made a list of 12 best 2021 luxury SUVs according to previous buyers’ experience, upcoming changes, and prices.

2021 Lexus RX

2021 Lexus RX

RX is the best-selling premium model in the crossover/SUV class. So, there are no doubts the upcoming version will be among the most popular models in the market. The 2021 Lexus RX is a versatile SUV. The base configuration includes a 3.5-liter engine and five seats. If you need a seven-seater, you don’t have to search elsewhere, since the RX 350L is an extended version with more space inside, enough to fit the third row. Another cool upgrade is the F Sport package. Its name perhaps suggests the specs are upgraded, but the bundle actually enhances the exterior styling.

Under the bonnet is a 3.5-liter V6 engine. Toyota, the parent company, trusts this unit which is capable to produce 295 horsepower. With a hybrid configuration, the output reaches 310 ponies and a way better fuel economy. We will see if the carmaker is about to change something here. The same configuration was available on the Highlander Hybrid, which replaced now a V6 with a four-cylinder mill. Good thing – a hybrid powertrain is available with a seven-seat layout.

2021 Lincoln Aviator

2021 Lincoln Aviator

The 2021 Lincoln Aviator will be one of the SUVs under the spotlight thanks to its hybrid setup. The company introduced this engine last season, and it immediately drew a lot of attention. The mid-size segment is pretty popular nowadays with a lot of power and space inside the cabin. Even the base configuration is very impressive with 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. Of course, you cannot expect a good fuel economy. But, the company manages to add extra power through the hybrid system, by also fixing the gas mileage.

The luxury SUV is offering a few trim levels, but the most impressive offer comes with the Black Label. However, it is very expensive. The offer will be $51,000 for the base version. The entry-level package includes plenty of safety features. If you add a bit more money, the 2021 Lincoln Aviator Reserve adds 20-inches wheels, quad-zone climate control, Revel audio with 14 speakers, and leather seats. The hybrid configuration is available with Black Label and Grand Touring packages.

2021 Volvo XC40

2021 Volvo XC40 EV range

The subcompact segment is not so popular, but the 2021 Volvo XC40 could turn things around with the new generation. The Swedish carmaker is going to introduce a pure electric drivetrain with 248 miles of range, called Recharge. This will start the evolution in the lineup since the XC90 will follow the footsteps of its smaller cousin. Of course, the T4 and T5 will remain in the lineup as petrol configuration, while the T8 plug-in hybrid is also possible.

The price of the EV model will be around $50,000. This is going to be the most expensive version in the lineup. the luxury crossover SUV is available at $35,000 with the T4 drivetrain and Momentum package.

Other trim levels are R-Design and Inscription, which will also load the 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge with extra features. Besides the T4, the subcompact crossover is offering the T5 configuration. Turbocharged 2.0 engine is returning 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, which needs 6.5 seconds for a 0-60 mph sprint.

2021 Toyota Land Cruiser

2021 Toyota Land Cruiser 300
Is this Toyota Land Cruiser 300 concept?

Sales of the Land Cruiser are falling and the huge SUV is falling down the pecking order both in full-size luxury segment and company’s lineup. Well, it is old and expensive. Its combination of utility and luxury is not unique anymore. So, the 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser needs a shocking therapy. For a long time we are waiting for the new 300 series, and the next-gen model should be ready for the upcoming season.

One of the first changes we will see in the 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 is in the engine room. The carmaker is replacing an old and sturdy V8 unit with a lighter and more efficient V6. With 15 mpg return, Land Cruiser was not at the top of the wishlist for buyers looking for a fuel-friendly SUV. The project is called the I-Force Max and Toyota already confirmed a twin-turbo configuration for the Tundra truck. Bonus: the premium Lexus brand applied for the new trademark – LX600. So, the Land Cruiser’s sibling will probably go the same way.

2021 Genesis GV80

Hyundai’s debut in the luxury SUV segment. The growth of the Korean company is impressive and it is now resulting in expansion. Under the bonnet of the all-new 2021 Genesis GV80, you will find a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. If you think a 2.5-liter unit is not a powerful drivetrain for such an SUV, Genesis will surprise you with the output. The small block is pushing 300 hp and 310 lb-ft through an 8-speed automatic transmission. A 3.5-liter V6 is also getting support from a turbocharger and bursts 380 ponies and 390 lb-ft of torque. This setup will need only 5.5 seconds for a 0-60 mph sprint. Outside the US, a diesel configuration is also an option.

2021 Infiniti QX80

2021 Infiniti QX80 monograph concept

The 2021 Infiniti QX80 will be an all-new model. However, this nameplate has an army of fans, and we are sure the Japanese carmaker is not going to disappoint. Well, the new generation of the full-size luxury SUV will be based on the Monograph concept. The platform underpins the new styling. The combination of boxy, futuristic, and bold elements will create a perfect craft. Plus, the interior is going to be revisited. However, the production model won’t be too futuristic like the concept.

The major question about the 2021 Infiniti QX80 is – what will be the power source? Nissan and Infiniti share a 5.6-liter V8 unit. However, this one is very thirsty and replacement is coming. The new generation is the perfect moment for such an update. Still, we don’t know the company’s plans yet. Engineers will try to maintain the power output at the high level (400 hp and 415 lb-ft coming from a current V8). Also, do not be surprised if the QX80 introduces a hybrid technology.

Engineers didn’t save power. The base configuration is coming with a V6 unit and 335 horsepower. The output jumps to 523 ponies when you pick the M50i version. No, it is not the famous 2021 BMW X6 M model. With this package, the 4.4-liter V8 engine can produce 600-625 hp. But, in this case, the price enters a six-digit realm.

2021 Range Rover Sport SVR

One of the most important changes in JLR’s lineup for the next season. The 2021 Range Rover Sport will go through a redesign. The model will come out by the end of this year unless the COVID-19 virus hits harder than in the first wave. The popularity of the mid-size segment can be shown in the example of the British carmaker. Range Rover Sport is now more popular than the full-size Range Rover. Also, the non-premium Land Rover Discovery sells better than expected.

Do not expect big cosmetic changes. The current look made the Sport so popular. So, there is no need to risk things. Drivetrain lineup is probably the strongest advantage of the 2021 Range Rover Sport. Well, the high-end models with a V8 engine won’t be considered in our review, since these can cost even more than BMW X6. The PHEV system is still available at a reasonable price for the luxury model.

Mercedes is a German synonym for luxury. The carmaker updates its entire crossover and SUV lineup for 2020. The COVID-19 outburst definitely hit this company very hard, but we expect the response. The GLS will get new AMG versions. Like the M package for BMW, this one is far from affordable. Still, the entry-level 2021 Mercedes GLS will be worthy of consideration, since it offers a whole new impression of luxury.

The highlight for the interior is the new MBUX infotainment system. the carmaker took everything to the new level with the advanced navigation system. The seating capacity is seven, while the captain’s chairs in the middle row could cost you one spot. Total cargo space reaches 85 cubic feet with all seats down. But, you won’t use this premium SUV for towing. Genuine leather upholstery and seats are making the GLS so exclusive.
