Audi unveiled details about the facelift of its compact Q5 crossover. The vehicle is going through the mid-cycle update for the first time since the latest generation debuted back in 2018. Changes are now more frequent, so there is no surprise why 2021 Audi Q5 is introducing a new look. Still, we are not getting a completely fresh crossover, but details are making the compact vehicle more attractive.
Also, there is a new powertrain system. The 2021 Audi Q5 is bringing the plug-in technology. The mild-hybrid configuration becomes standard. If you are looking for muscles, the SQ5 is the model adding extra power. The new Q5 will cost less than before. Still, you can upgrade the offer with either V6 engine or Premium Plus and Prestige packages.
The Q5 ended last year as the best-selling luxury compact SUV. The competition was more than tough. But, there is no time for celebration and bragging, since rivals are catching up. That is why Audi is updating Q5 – to make it better. Plus, buyers are getting a discount. Can it be better?
2021 Audi Q5 Facelift, Changes
The German carmaker unveiled the crossover pretty early. Well, the pandemic slowed things down in the automotive industry and all shows are canceled because of it. Fans are hungry for new releases, although the automotive market is heavily hit. Audi wanted to keep them close by releasing details on the new Q5. Many changes, outside and inside, will make the crossover fun to explore, especially for previous owners who can test new features.
The new grille is definitely the first thing that will draw attention. It is not all-new since we can find an octagonal design with a honeycomb pattern in other SUVs. However, it looks wider on the 2021 Audi Q5, making the crossover sportier. DRLs are also revisited, as well as the taillights. Air intakes are taking a higher position compared to the previous model. Plus, designers added a few details around doors.
Definitely, our attention was caught by lower sills. At the back, the OLED lights present a new feature with flashing signatures. For example, the color changes when you select a different drive mode. Also, the OLED lamps will be activated to warn other drivers they are too close to the Q5. The company also added a couple of fresh paintjobs – Ultra Blue and District Green. By choosing the PHEV configuration, buyers will open room for an additional upgrade through the Sport Plus package. It comes with 20-inch wheels, unique rubber, sport buckets, and special wood and aluminum inserts.
2021 Audi Q5 Interior, Accessories
We will focus only on changes on the 2021 Audi Q5, while you can find out more details about complete packages on the KBB. A 10-inch screen is the center of the infotainment system. The MIB3 is refreshed and offers a lot more options than before. The info-entertaining package debuted on the latest A4 sedan and received positive feedback. Owners are praising the response time, speed, and graphics. Audi also worked on the voice commands and language recognition features.
This is the highlight of the interior changes. The rest of the cabin is pretty much the same. Designers will update colors and add contrast stitches to improve the overall impression. Nevertheless, the luxury crossover already comes with a stunning look. Audi Virtual Cockpit is available at higher trim levels. We could also see the autonomous drive. Since the company didn’t announce it for 2021, it might happen in the following year.
Specifications, Hybrid Engine, SQ5
Under the hood of the entry-level 2021 Audi Q5 will be a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. For the new season, engineers enhance the powerplant, which gained 13 horsepower, for 261 hp total. This engine also creates 273 lb-ft of torque and it is mated to a 7-speed DCT. For a luxury crossover, Q5 returns a respectable fuel economy of 25 mpg combined.
Like the standard configuration, the PHEV system also gets a 13-hp boost compared to the previous edition. This time, the crossover is able to burst 362 ponies and 335 lb-ft of twist. A 14.1-kWh battery pack improves the gas mileage and the plug-in hybrid can go 20 miles using only the electric motor. The Quattro AWD is standard all across the lineup.
The most expensive package comes with the turbo-six plant capable to create 350 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque. The 2021 Audi SQ5 is going to offer a lot more upgrades, including a smoother 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox.
2021 Audi Q5 Prices
The base price of the new crossover will be $1,000 under the current MSRP. The 2021 Audi Q5 starts at $43,300 and the V6 increases the cost by $10k. A plug-in hybrid will be slightly cheaper. The price correction will make the Q5 more competitive with big rivals – BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC. We will also see the interesting competition in the performance segment with SQ5, X3M, and AMG GLC offering more than 300 ponies.
