2024 Acura MDX Updates: Hybrid, Type S, A Spec

339 0

The fresh luxury SUV from Honda’s cuisine introduced a new look and the performance-oriented Type S model. But, one thing was missing compared to the previous version – a hybrid setup. The 2024 Acura MDX should bring back this configuration. Some sources claim this time it will be the PHEV system. That should be the only noteworthy change on the 2024 YM. Exterior styling, interior and available packages stay the same. With this info, we also expect the price to remain at the same level.

Definitely, the 2024 Acura MDX Type S remains the most interesting model in the lineup. The company brought back the famous nameplate. Soon, more vehicles should wear this badge. Also, Honda might produce more Type R units. We recommend upgrading the MDX with the SH-AWD package. There are also a few other optional bundles of features, and we’ll go through all of them. The only missing part is a hybrid engine. Nevertheless, now with the Type S turbo unit, buyers have an optional upgrade for the drivetrain room.

Basic Package

The entry-level configuration of the luxury crossover is centered around a 3.5-liter V6 engine. This is an old setup and we can say a lot of fans and experts are surprised why the engineers didn’t go with a turbo-four. The V6 can produce 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. However, for a luxury class, that is below the expectations. Most of the rivals will be able to deliver 350+ horsepower. The most powerful ones do 500 ponies. What’s more, a fuel economy of a six-pot mill is not impressive. It is probably the biggest downside. On the positive sides, we can upgrade the ride with an AWD. The Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) is one of the best in the class.

The package also includes 19-inch wheels, a panoramic roof, simulated leather, heated seats, 12-inch display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto services, 9-speaker audio and wireless charging. AcuraWatch is an advanced safety system with lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitors.

Optional Upgrades: Technology, A-Spec, Advance

We can also say those are trim levels, but three optional bundles are available separately, and their features are different. The Technology package adds 20-inch wheels, parking sensors at both ends, leather upholstery, memory settings for seats, ambient lighting, navigation, and premium audio by ELS.

The 2024 Acura MDX A-Spec is probably the best-looking model with a sportier appearance. It all starts with the flat-bottom steering wheel, special stitching around the cabin, and intercom system (your voice can be broadcasted through speakers). By the way, ELS installs 16 of those for the A-Spec model. Ventilation for seats is also added.

The Advance package is the ultimate upgrade. Roof rails are standard, as well as the hands-free liftgate. Adaptive suspension dampers enhance ride comfort. Drivers can start the engine remotely. The 360-degree camera helps you park the crossover SUV. Premium leather, a heated second row, and additional USB ports are the final touches for the Advance model.

2024 Acura MDX Type S

The main upgrade for the 2024 Acura MDX Type S is a more powerful drivetrain setup. For this package, the company tuned a 3.0-liter turbo-six engine. It produces 355 hp and 354 lb-ft. Seems impressive. But, compared to German rivals, this can be only an entry-level configuration for the mid-size SUV segment. Anyway, the MDX Type S is also coming with a sport-tuned adaptive suspension, enhancing the ride impression even more. Both SH-AWD and suspension are tuned to deliver a sportier performance. Brembo brakes are also there. The exterior and interior feature a few Type S specific details. The Advance model is also a possible upgrade. In this case, you can get a massage seats function and a 25-speaker ELS system.

2024 Acura MDX Hybrid

The final piece of the puzzle should be the 2024 Acura MDX Hybrid. The SUV already had this kind of engine and it was quite of a surprise when the new MDX came out without a hybrid setup. Well, the Type S made it up. However, the gas mileage issue can force the company to bring back the version that can put out a better fuel economy. None can do better than the hybrid engine.

Previously, a 3.0-liter V6 engine had support of an electric battery. Now, the powerplant is turbocharged to maximize performance. But, the major downside of the 2024 Acura MDX is the gas mileage. The SUV returns 23 mpg in the base form, and the Type S can’t get to 20 mpg combined. The 2024 Acura MDX hybrid would at least match the return of its predecessor – 27 miles per gallon. Nevertheless, everything depends on the type of engine the SUV is going to use. Some sources are mentioning the PHEV system, which can boost both the fuel economy and performance.
