2022 GMC Acadia Unchanged, Redesign Due for 2023

Although its larger sibling is all-new, the 2022 GMC Acadia is not bringing any key updates. The next redesign is scheduled for 2023 and General Motors will stick to this plan. The focus, for now, is on electrification, with plenty of EVs on the way. You probably heard about the Hummer electric truck comeback and it will wear the GMC badge. This means the SUVs by the same company could also get the EV versions in the foreseeable future.

The 2022 GMC Acadia is a mid-size crossover SUV. Some say it is a twin to Chevy Traverse. Well, two models are sharing the architecture and drivetrains. A four-cylinder unit is not going to impress you unless it is turbocharged. A V6 is the best choice for the Acadia. The SUV is a seven-seater with the option to cut one spot by installing captain’s chairs in the middle row. This is the standard layout for the top of the class Denali trim. It makes Acadia a luxury model.

Trim Levels and Options

There are five packages available to start building the 2022 GMC Acadia. The base version is coming as the SL and delivers a manual liftgate. Inside the cabin, the centerpiece of the infotainment system is an 8-inch screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, of course, as well as a total of five USB ports. The SLE is a six-seater, with the captain’s buckets in the middle row. Also, this package upgrades the liftgate with a power tailgate. More safety and infotainment options are available as well.

The 2022 GMC Acadia SLT is the best buy. You will get a cool set of accessories and the price still stays reasonable. For example, there are heated front seats, navigation, and premium Bose audio. Larger wheels are also included, while the main change is under the hood where a turbo 2.0 replaces a 2.5 mill.

2022 GMC Acadia Denali and AT4

Two top models are Denali and AT4. Depending on needs, you can pick a luxury or off-road enhancements. The 2022 GMC Acadia Denali uses the top features the company has to offer. You won’t be able to find some of these elsewhere around the lineup. Only other Denali models by GMC will use a head-up display and ventilated front seats. The tilt and the telescoping steering wheel is also there.20-inch special wheels and exterior paintjobs will make sure watchers don’t miss the Denali vehicle.

On the other hand, if you are an adventurer, then the 2022 GMC Acadia AT4 is going to be the most interesting version of the SUV. This package is sometimes undervalued by experts, but it can be a competitor to the Jeep Wrangler and Toyota 4Runner TRD. 17-inch wheels and all-terrain tires are added. The vehicle will deploy the combination of V6 power and all-wheel drive. Roof rails are standard, while drivers can get help by the hill-descent control. The AT4 SUV is also lifted thanks to the unique suspension setup, which will add more space under the vehicle.

Specs

The 2022 GMC Acadia will be equipped with three engines for sure. The entry-level option for SL and SLE is a 2.5-liter four-pot mill. This is the underperformer for the mid-size SUV, but there are buyers happy with 195 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque. The towing capacity is just 1,000 pounds and this configuration is not making a difference in the fuel economy segment. Other versions can return the same 27 mpg on highway. Still, a 2.5-l unit is better for city cruising thanks to 21 mpg rating.

A turbo-four will raise the bar to 230 horsepower. Also, a 2.0-liter displacement is creating 260 pound-feet of torque, which brings a better towing capacity number. All-wheel drive is optional and the engine is standard for the SLT trim. Engineers are pairing it with a nine-speed gearbox.

The V6 is a reliable 3.6-liter engine that creates 310 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. It also tows the most, but not more than 4,000 pounds. The 2022 GMC Acadia will need to keep pace with the competition in this segment, since most mid-size SUVs can do 5,000 lbs, and the best models reach 6k. Anyway, the 3.6-liter mill features an Active Fuel Management system that improves fuel economy. With a V6, 2022 GMC Acadia is going to return 23 mpg combined, or 21 mpg if you opt for the AWD.

2022 GMC Acadia Release Date and Prices

Without big changes, the 2022 GMC Acadia will be available early in 2021. Nevertheless, in 2022, we expect more news about the redesign and possible engine upgrades. Besides the EV, we could also see the hybrid Acadia. Also, there will be more updates on styling. So, we recommend you waiting for the facelifted SUV. The only reason why you should buy the 2022 Acadia is the price, which can drop a bit compared to the current level. When the all-new SUV arrives, the MSRP will go up.
