Ford Expedition Max is the biggest rival, for now. Jeep is about to add Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer as full-size SUV and its extended-body version. On the other hand, Ford might bring back the heavy-duty truck-based Excursion. Well, this one belongs to a whole new world of SUVs.

2022 GMC Yukon XL Specs and Towing Capacity
There are two petrol engines under the hood of the 2022 GMC Yukon XL. We already used to see 5.3 and 6.2 mills. Both are eight-cylinder drivetrains with massive outputs. The first one provides 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. However, this one is the least capable of towing with only 6,200 pounds. The XL models are down by 300 lbs compared to the standard wheelbase. Also, you can maximize the potential only with the rear-wheel drive, while AWD also takes some pounds from the towing capacity.
The 2022 GMC Yukon XL becomes a more serious hauler with a 6.2-liter displacement. In this case, the towing capacity jumps to 8,200 pounds. The SWB can do 8,500 pounds. Again, an AWD will reduce the hauling potential. The engine is sending power through a 10-speed automatic gearbox. The SUV also features the cylinder deactivation system. Nevertheless, due to its size and weight, the Yukon SUV is going to consume a lot of gas. In perfect conditions, you can get up to 20 mpg by driving it on the highway.
The turbodiesel engine, new for the next-gen SUV, is not enhancing the towing capacity as many of fans were hoping. On the other hand, a 3.0-liter inline-six oil burner is improving the gas mileage to 21/27 mpg with the rear-wheel drive. The 2022 GMC Yukon XL Diesel is also available with 4WD. Total outputs of this engine are 277 hp and 260 lb-ft. We will see what will Ford Expedition Max do with its Powerstroke unit, coming next year.
Like the standard version, the LWB 2022 GMC Yukon XL is offering four trim levels. The base one is SLE with 10-way power driver’s seat and Cruise Control system. The forward-collision alert is standard, as well as parking cameras. Smart infotainment system offers two most popular smartphone services – Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SLT is a mid-range offer, but it is already a premium package. Leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, wireless charger, and Bose audio are some of the things you can get only at the high-end versions of other vehicles.
So, what’s above the SLT? As you can guess, the 2022 GMC Yukon XL Denali. This is the premium badge for all GMC vehicles. Of course, Denali package is going to include the most powerful configuration. Multimedia and infotainment system highlights are huge screen, HD camera, and a lot of safety alerts and warnings. If you prefer off-road performance over the luxury, then the 2022 GMC Yukon XL AT4 is your model. 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, off-road drive mode and 4WD are standard. Heated seats and steering wheel are some luxury additions to the AT4 SUV.
