Chevrolet has big arrivals for the next season. Its full-size lineup is entering the new generation. For a couple of years fans are listening about the huge updates on Tahoe and Suburban. It left most other vehicles in the background, including the 2021 Chevy Traverse. The mid-size SUV is one of the most popular models in the segment, so it is a surprise why more attention is not on this vehicle.
One of the reasons is the lack of changes. The 2021 Chevy Traverse will come without any serious upgrade. The SUV is not even going to appear this year, but early in 2021. All eyes are on big rigs. Fans and experts are disappointed, because they expected GM to bring any kind of a hybrid unit to compete with Ford and Toyota SUVs. But, it seems like Explorer and Highlander are the big bites for General Motors at this moment.
Unchanged SUV will offer a V6 engine and eight seats. Optionally, Traverse can become a seven-seater and get a V8. One of the changes for the upcoming season could be an update on the High Country package. This will be something for the start.
2021 Chevy Traverse Trim Levels
The 2021 Chevy Traverse is a very versatile SUV. It offers the standard package, with the competitive price, and builds up the rest of the lineup, reaching the premium waters with the high-end versions. The L package includes 18-inch wheels, heated mirrors, tri-zone climate control, and eight seating spots. The upholstery is cloth, but the quality one. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard and the center of the infotainment system is a 7-inch display. The LS is not adding too much, only tint for the rear privacy glass. However, you will become eligible to add more options, including additional packages and premium colors.
The LT will offer you two types of upgrades – based on cloth and leather. The highlights of the first one are fog lights, roof rails, and a seven-seat layout. Instead of the bench in the middle row, you will find the captain’s chairs. Driver’s bucket is power-adjustable in eight ways. Leather could be found on the steering wheel of the LT Cloth package. The LT Leather is not changing only the upholstery. There are more smart features, as well as a heated front row and a blind-spot monitor. Rear parking sensors are included.
Premium Models: RS, High Country and Premier
When the SUV costs $45,000 we can call it a luxury model. At this price, you can find base trim levels of Acura MDX or Infiniti QX60. The first high-end version of the 2021 Chevy Traverse is the RS with larger wheels, navigation and Bose audio. More alert and warning systems are enhancing safety. Premier model also uses 20-inch wheels, but a different design. LED lamps are standard, while the colors of the handles match the paintjob of the rest of the body. Plus, there are chrome finishes to make this version more elegant. Ventilated seats and wireless chargers are also part of the Premier offer.
So, what’s left for the 2021 Chevy Traverse High Country? Polished alloy wheels and trailering packages are something you can’t find in the rest of the lineup. Dual-panel moonroof makes the interior so special. Plus, the High Country adds more safety features, such as smart emergency braking, not only at lower speeds. Also, there are adaptive cruise control, power-folding rear seats, etc.
2021 Chevy Traverse Specs
One of the downsides of the mid-size SUV is the only one engine. A 3.6-liter V6 is competitive and something we expect from such a vehicle. But, other rivals are using either turbo-four or V8 as alternatives. Let’s not mention hybrid units.
A V6 powerplant is mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox. It sends 310 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque to rear wheels. Optionally, you can select an AWD. Fuel economy is 22/20 mpg with RWD/AWD.
The situation could be changed for the next season. We already mentioned some of the options. Well, the RS used to offer a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine. However, the company discontinued it recently. The situation became worst for Traverse fans when the GM added the same powerplant to the premium Cadillac XT5 SUV.
A V8 would not help in fuel-saving. But, it will make the 2021 Chevy Traverse more powerful. A 5.3 could be a good start to take on the Jeep Grand Cherokee. A 6.2-liter V8 can compete with its SRT model. Finally, the hybrid is not likely to happen, although we would like to see it.
2021 Chevy Traverse Prices
The base L version of the SUV will cost you $31,000. It is a good starting price for an eight-seat vehicle. The LS offers plenty of upgrades, but you must pay $3,000 to start using these privileges. LT with cloth upholstery is priced around $36,500 and leather suite adds $4,000. Premium realm starts with a $45,000 tag on the RS edition. Premier is still under $50,000 and the 2021 Chevy Traverse High Country starts above it. Heavily loaded, it reaches $60,000. If V8 happens, the price will go even higher.
