The 2020 Honda Avancier is the crossover SUV for the Chinese market. You can find this vehicle under the nameplate UR-V. This model came back in 2015 as the SUV and Honda position it above compact CR-V. Previously, the Avancier was a station wagon that had a short run at the beginning of the new millennium. Back then, it was based on the Accord sedan. Now, it also has some similarities with one of the most popular Honda’s cars, but the SUV is using the all-new Concept D architecture.
Ever since its comeback, the vehicle didn’t have any major updates. Next season the 2020 Honda Avancier will bring a lot of novelties. We can also follow changes in the Pilot SUV since the Chinese model could borrow some solutions from the US flagship vehicle. All in all, the Avancier could be available in more markets soon, since the company is happy with its development. In the US Honda recently re-launched Passport as a mid-size vehicle, with similar dimensions as Avancier. Both SUVs are slightly smaller than the Pilot. So, the appearance in this region is not so likely next season.
2020 Honda Avancier Changes
After four years the SUV will go through a facelift process that will refresh interior and exterior. We believe the changes will be heavily based on the new Passport and these two will be a very similar model in different markets. Well, both of them are 190 inches long with a 111-in wheelbase. Pilot is 5 inches longer, which is enough for third rows of seats. Passport is slightly wider (2 inches) and notably higher (71 in compared to 65 in).
The 2020 Honda Avancier will also look to borrow some of the styling solutions from the popular CR-V compact crossover. Although it is new, the major change for this vehicle is the arrival of the hybrid drivetrain. The new Avancier could also bring such changes, especially having in mind how Chinese hybrid market is growing fast. Whatsoever, we still don’t know exactly what kind of cosmetic updates we can see on the UR-V, but some rumors say it will be a blast.
The company will try to sell more Avanciers to younger buyers. That is why the redesign is so important. On the other hand, the largest SUV in the Chinese market must offer enough safety and comfort, and that is why this model is not getting the third row of seats. Black grille, LED lights, and chrome details will definitely draw attention. Of course, there are new head- and taillights, while upper trim levels will offer larger wheels (20- and 21-inches) and different design of rims.
Specs
Honda is choosing reliable units for the 2020 Honda Avancier. The base SUV will offer a 2.0-liter turbo engine. For the current model, it bursts 200 kW (270 hp). Engineers could push this number up since the drivetrain is capable to produce more energy. The petrol unit also offers 275 lb-ft of torque and it is mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox.
This is not the only choice for the mid-size SUV. The company also offers a 1.5-liter turbo-four with 144 kW (195 hp) and 180 lb-ft (240 Nm) of torque. In this case, the power router is a continuously variable transmission. Previously, Honda gave us some hints that some versions could get a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and now fans believe the redesign will also bring this unit. For the compact CR-V, this engine produces 185 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque, and it fits into Avancier’s character. Fuel economy is one of the reasons why this unit is possible since it returns 33 mpg on the open road.
Hybrid
Back in 2015, Honda announced that a hybrid version will be available pretty soon. However, four years later, the UR-V is still available with petrol units only. The redesign could bring the 2020 Honda Avancier hybrid or even PHEV model. Honda is launching CR-V hybrid in Europe and this vehicle will be available in the US as well. Their largest Chinese SUV could borrow the system that combines a 2.0-liter petrol unit and electric motors mounted on the rear axle. The total output of this configuration is 180 hp (135 kW) and 315 Nm (230 lb-ft) of torque.
2020 Honda Avancier Safety and Release Date
Probably the main advantage of the 2020 Honda Avancier will again be the safety. This model stunned us with its equipment, especially for the Chinese market. We can hear that Honda is ready to deploy some advanced technologies. The base version will get features such as lane departure warning and even maybe some autonomous drive systems. We will know more when the redesigned SUV hits the dealerships and it will happen early next year. By then we will know which markets, besides China, will offer the new Avancier or UR-V. We can say it is already available in the US as Honda Passport.
