2022 BMW X1 Redesign and Release Date

1923 0

The all-new 2022 BMW X1 is going to debut in the US market, finally. The company is redesigning its smallest crossover. Still, one of the biggest news for fans in North America is a plan to bring the small SUV across the ocean. The subcompact vehicle could even enter the third generation, according to a few sources.

The subcompact SUV is perfect for urban cities with a lot of traffic. A pair of diesel units, petrol engine, and the PHEV configuration will provide enough power for highway runs as well. But, the size of the 2022 BMW X1 is not going to allow you to load too much stuff for a family trip or a weekend getaway. Manual and automatic transmission will be available again, as well as the front- and all-wheel drive, popular xDrive.

2022 BMW X1 Redesign Details

The update of styling is certain on the 2022 BMW X1. The small SUV will find inspiration on larger vehicles by the same company. The X1 redesign is going to be inspired by the latest changes on the X5. The flagship SUV debuted in 2019. The styling is still fresh and details from this one will be used on several other models in the lineup.

It will be interesting how the 2022 BMW X1 will adopt the solutions from its bigger brother. The length stays put at about 175 inches. The question is if the crossover is bringing back a long-wheelbase version, which adds nearly 5 inches. A coupe model is coming as the X2, and it is slightly shorter than the X1.

The subcompact vehicle is pretty aggressive already, and further upgrades will make it even bolder when it adopts the solutions from the X5. The base set of wheels comes with 17-inch rims and upper versions and optional upgrades are offering 18- and 19-inchers. The small crossover cannot offer plenty of space for cargo, but it is very comfortable since the German carmaker is not saving on materials and features.

Interior

A lot of work is ahead of men in the company to make the 2022 BMW X1 more efficient inside the cabin. We don’t expect plenty of space. This is the subcompact vehicle. But, the infotainment system must be better. The big downside is a lack of Android Auto. It’s the case on other models as well. On the other hand, Apple CarPlay is not working perfectly either. The redesign is going to bring novelties to the interior. Still, we can’t compare it to its larger siblings. Navigation should be standard with the single package the vehicle is offering. Automatic headlights with high beams are also there, while optionally you can add a moonroof, HUD, or hands-free liftgate. The audio system is already cool, and premium Harman Kardon sound will come with 12 speakers. Other additional features are wireless charging, adaptive cruise control, and a heated steering wheel. Nevertheless, the price quickly escalates.

2022 BMW X1 Specs

A 2.0-liter petrol displacement is the base one for the US market. A turbo-four unit is ready to crunch 228 hp and 258 lb-ft. The sDrive28i is the standard configuration. BMW fans know the “s” prefix means front-wheel drive. The xDrive28i is upgrading the system and sends power to all four corners of the crossover. A light vehicle is great for commuting, returning 27 mpg. Still, the fuel economy in the city is not the best, with 23 mpg. All-wheel drive will consume slightly more fuel.

Other configurations are not available for North America. Still, the 2022 BMW X1is going out worldwide and in other countries emission standards are allowing more diesel units. A 1.5-liter inline-three turbo mill creates 115 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque, while a 2.0-l oil-burner adds 30 ponies and nearly 50 pound-feet. The most powerful setup is combining a 2.0-liter diesel powerplant with a twin-turbo system and xDrive. It delivers the same amount of power as the petrol unit, but raises the torque level to 330 lb-ft. A plug-in hybrid is also an option, but only for some markets. Chinese version produces 135 hp, while the rest of the world sees the 2022 BMW X1 PHEV with 225 hp and 285 pound-feet of torque. All the existing powertrains will be carried over for the 2022 season.

2022 BMW X1 Release Date, Price

The initial MSRP of the subcompact crossover is over $35,000. This is way too high, even for the luxury class. All-wheel drive bumps the price by $2,000. Compared to other German luxury crossovers from the same segment, the 2022 BMW X1 is on the same level. Still, you can find more affordable offers from other companies. The X1 is coming out late next season. We will see if the company is making a big move and creates the M performance-oriented package with a more powerful drivetrain. In this case, the price will go over $50,000. Experts doubt that especially with Mercedes discontinuing the AMG rival from the same class.
