2020 Dodge Journey Changes (Full Review)

2000 0

FCA sold more Journey mid-size SUVs than Durango models. This might be the reason why the company is moving the other one to the body-on-frame platform. This move will create more space for the 2020 Dodge Journey. Also, we expect the SUV to be more interesting thanks to the changes the company is introducing for the new season.

The new 2020 Dodge Journey is cutting a V6 engine from the lineup. So, the GT package and SE trim levels are not available anymore. Well, the new Journey will also get further updates. We still believe the SUV could get the SRT performance package. But, this will come true only if the V6 engine comes back.

Unlike the Durango, Journey is a two-row mid-size SUV. It is smaller than its sibling, but passengers will have enough space. More important changes for the new vehicle are happening inside the cockpit. The SUV will offer more space for occupants and the infotainment system is updated. The Journey is available worldwide, but most sales FCA achieves in the US.

2020 Dodge Journey Redesign Changes

The 2020 Dodge Journey is still in its first generation. The SUV arrived in 2011 and ever since it didn’t suffer any big update. Aging design can’t match the offer by other mid-size SUVs. Still, the two-row versions are not so popular as these that offer extra seats.

So, the redesign of the 2020 Journey is something fans and enthusiasts expected for a while. The company decided to update the infotainment systems and replace the V6 engine. However, they are yet to bring the new powertrain. We know a 3.6-liter V6 is not part of the lineup anymore. There are some theories about the hybrid unit or a performance model, but the FCA is not offering complete info yet.

Crossroad and SE Value Package Equipment

Next season we are not going to have four trim levels available to choose. By cutting a V6 engine, the company discontinued two versions of the SUV. SE and GT are history now. These trims could come back, but only when the carmaker introduces the replacement for the outgoing powertrain.

Rear park assist is standard for two remaining trim levels thanks to the new upgrades. Also, the upper Crossroad package is getting a moonroof. There are seven exterior paintjobs available to choose, and FCA cuts two colors from the palette. Inside, the SE Value Package comes with black or tan upholstery, while the Crossroad doesn’t allow you to pick another one.

Popular Entertaining package is now standard for both trim levels. However, you will choose a level of this suite and get more or less equipment. So, the base one includes premium cloth, leather steering wheel, three-zone automatic climate control, alarm, and improved voice commands for the infotainment system. The Crossroad model adds heated front buckets and steering wheel. Navigation is also included, as well as the premium sound system.

2020 Dodge Journey SRT Rumors

We don’t expect the company to leave its SUV with only two trim levels. Upgrades are certain, but we still lack a lot of details. The wish of most fans is the 2020 Dodge Journey SRT. This is the performance badge that only Dodge vehicles carry. The only exclusion is Jeep Grand Cherokee, which will probably replace the SRT with Trackhawk nameplate.

Nevertheless – what will be under the hood of the 2020 Journey SRT? An SUV that uses only a four-pot engine is getting a performance-oriented trim level. Options are numerous. A high-output turbocharged or supercharged four-banger, a V6 with more power than the discontinued one, or even a V8 are possibilities (some not so realistic). Besides the engine, the body of the SRT model will also suffer changes. Larger wheels, eye-catching parts, and sportier interior are things that follow this package.

Without V6, the new Journey will have to rely on the single engine – a 2.4-liter four-cylinder unit capable to deliver 175 hp and 165 lb-ft of torque. It is not enough to battle rivals in the US market. In other countries, Journey is also available with MultiJet diesel engine and a 3.5-liter V6 petrol mill. Nevertheless, we can’t see any other powertrain replacing a 3.6-liter Pentastar and its 285 hp. The only reasonable move would be a hybrid drivetrain. In this case, Dodge could gain better gas mileage and total outputs. The downside would be the higher price.

2020 Dodge Journey Release Date, Price

The company announced the 2020 Dodge Journey is going to arrive to dealerships by the end of 2019. Although we didn’t get updates about the price, FCA is probably keeping the base cost for the SE Value Package. That means the entry-level model is going to be available for $25,000. Crossroad brings some serious upgrades and its price is showing that. Next season it will cost at least $33k. Later in 2020, we will see the first upgrades for the lineup.
