The 2021 Lexus NX is going to be an all-new compact crossover ready for the new challenges. The redesigned model is coming next year as the second generation. With numerous changes, enthusiasts and fans can expect a lot from this crossover. It is already among the best-selling models in its class, with only Mercedes GLC Class taking slightly higher sales values.
The 2021 Lexus NX is going to be a versatile crossover. We will see the standard NX 300 version, then there is the F Sport edition with different suspension tuning and cosmetic updates, and finally the hybrid model. It is named as the NX 300h and besides the standard petrol drivetrain, it also uses an electric motor to improve outputs and gas mileage.
As the compact crossover, do not expect too much room inside the cabin. The vehicle is spacious, but if you need more comfort, then choose some of its larger siblings. Lexus RX is the most popular mid-size SUV in the market. In the future, it will share a lot of things in common with its smaller sibling, which is going to increase the chances of the NX on the market.
2021 Lexus NX Drivetrain
Under the bonnet of the 2021 Lexus NX is a turbocharged 2.0-liter displacement. With this engine, the crossover delivers 235 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. For this class, this is a respectable output. Acura RDX produces 270 hp, Infiniti QX30 only 310, and Volvo XC40 comes with similar numbers as the NX300.
The small displacement is very good for city cruising, since it returns 22 mpg, no matter which setup you choose. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive optional, and F Sport consumes slightly more fuel on the open road. There, this version returns 27 mpg, while the new NX will probably go up to 30 mpg for highway drive. A six-speed transmission is the only power router and the crossover is going to need premium fuel.
The hybrid version of this vehicle is going to arrive as 2021 Lexus NX300h. The base of this configuration is a 2.5-liter petrol engine, that doesn’t require premium gas for the maximum performance. on the other hand, engineers are replacing the six-pace gearbox with a CVT and the kick-down system for the maximum power. In that case, the hybrid setup returns 195 hp.
A pair of electric motors are giving support to each axle. The front one comes with more power. Rear motor adds 60 hp and makes the 2021 Lexus NX300h an all-wheel drive crossover. Fuel consumption is getting a huge boost, and the NX becomes a great option for city drive with 33 mpg of gas mileage.
Still No Signs of Compact Crossover
Spy photos are not available at the moment. However, we know which are the main segments where designers and engineers will have the most jobs. First of all, that is the interior comfort. Yes, the NX is a luxury crossover, but it could offer easier access and more features inside the cockpit. Space is limited, but with a better layout, it everything must be better organized.
On the other hand, there are a lot of good things the 2021 Lexus NX don’t have to change. Styling and ergonomics of the vehicle are impressing. The NX leaves a strong impression on the road as well. Road behavior is one of the best in the class. However, the company could improve it in every way to be better than the competition.
2021 Lexus NX Accessories and Features
The list of features for the 2021 Lexus NX will be longer than before. We already know one new item that is taking place in the new vehicle – Android Auto. Toyota, the parent company, is finally adding this feature to its lineup. The NX is already using Apple CarPlay. Toyota started using this one in 2018. There are also Amazon Alexa and other cool accessories which will ease the connectivity. Navigation remains optional, while the crossover is also going to offer a few USB ports, Bluetooth, audio streaming…
We expect a lot from the NX 300h version. The carmaker announced big plans for upcoming seasons, including the Level 4 of autonomous drive. Well, this system is not so easy to develop and it costs a fortune. But, some parts of the automation could be already available in 2021. Adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and parking aid are already parts of some upgrade packages.
2021 Lexus NX Release Date and Price
Model for the next season is already out, so the 2021 Lexus NX could arrive in the second half of 2020. Exact release date and place of its debut will be known in a few months. Meanwhile, the company will update the price as well. The next-gen model will add some value. The base price is not taking a big push and the NX will cost around $37,000. The F Sport package costs $4k more and the AWD package is $1,400. It is standard for the hybrid, which carries a $40,000 price tag.
