Two sources are showing the XL and Denali prototypes of the new 2021 GMC Yukon. The redesign could introduce the new generation since its two siblings are also suffering big updates (Chevy Tahoe and Suburban). Nevertheless, the most exciting model in the lineup remains the 2021 Yukon Denali, while the extended XL version offers an additional option. Both interior and exterior will be new and the full-size SUV will be probably bigger than before.
This is the segment where GM is dominating. All its three models are taking the first three spots on the sales chart for 2018. GMC Yukon had the best increase and it is obvious that buyers trust more to this company. Well, Chevy Tahoe and the extended Suburban are two separated models. Meanwhile, Yukon and Expedition count sales with XL and MAX models.
New series of full-size SUVs are coming in 2021. We saw spy photos of Chevrolet’s models and most experts expected them as 2020 YM. But, General Motors announced a delay. Although spy photos of the 2021 GMC Yukon were not available, we knew this model will also run into a new generation. Better offer means better sales. Can 2021 Yukon beat Tahoe’s record?
Spy Photos and Independent Rear Suspension
Suburban and Tahoe test mules are out for a while. It is not a secret that Chevy is testing prototypes of the new generation of big rigs. However, its GMC twin, Yukon, was spied for the first time some while ago. It is the XL version. However, it doesn’t unveil too much. On the other hand, you can’t expect the company to show their plans so early.
Not too long after that, we could find a render of the possible 2021 Yukon Denali model. Still, the source of the image is not reliable, although the picture seems like a brochure. The Arabic text translated into English says this is the imaginative concept. Meaning is not clear, so we won’t pay too much attention, but it still has to be kept for the record.
The certain thing for the new 2021 GMC Yukon is an independent rear suspension. It is a topic of discussion for a long time. Yukon’s Chevy twins already showed the setup and there is no way the GMC’s SUV won’t get the same configuration. Ford Expedition is using it for a while, and the multi-link setup is one of its main advantages.
Why Buy 2021 Yukon?
After the redesign, the company will fix most downsides of its vehicle. Well, the price remains a stumbling block for most buyers. But, you can’t expect the vehicle of this size to be cheap. The wide offer is one of the main reasons why sales are going so well. Standard, extended, or premium SUV – GMC will deliver it to a potential buyer. The 2021 Yukon Denali will belong to the premium class. The new generation could also use a diesel engine available for Chevy Silverado 1500 at this moment. In the future, more large vehicles will offer this drivetrain, and full-size SUV segment is the first favorite to introduce a new Duramax unit to its lineup.
2021 GMC Yukon XL and Denali Configurations
The standard SUV offers all you can expect from such vehicle – three rows of seats, a lot of space inside, but also a high price and fuel consumption. If you need more space, the 2021 Yukon XL adds more than 15 inches of the total length. The cargo space jumps over 120 cubic feet with all seats folded down. The headache comes when you need to find the slot for the SUV in the tight urban parking lot. On the other hand, if you are looking for the premium trim level, and Cadillac Escalade is too expensive, you can save some money by purchasing the 2021 Yukon Denali SUV.
Under the bonnet of the 2021 GMC Yukon will sit the same 6.2-liter V8 engine as before. That is the best unit GM can use for the full-size SUV to compete with the Ford Expedition and its turbocharged V6. Yukon’s engine is good for 420 hp and 460 lb-ft and the towing capacity is 8,500 pounds with a Trailering package. It will be available in the future as well, and the company could also add the AT4 trim to improve off-road capabilities. Without it, Yukon’s towing capacity is ‘only’ 6,500 lbs.
2021 Yukon Release Date
We must wait for the official update. The company will bring Chevy models first and then the 2021 Yukon. The complete lineup will be available right after the premiere, including the XL and Denali versions. At its debut, we will find out if the AT4 is coming as well. A full pricing list will be unveiled just before the sales start. The new generation will bring cosmetic changes, but also the updates of prices. The base version will start above $50,000, while the full-loaded Denali will cost around $80,000.
