2021 – 2022 Ford SUV Lineup: Prices, Release Dates, Specs

F-150 truck is the best-selling Ford vehicle in the US with nearly 1 million sales per annum. Crossovers and SUVs are not near this number, but the entire segment is more popular than utility pickups. A compact class dominates and we can’t wait to see how the buyers are going to react to the new Escape. Nevertheless, the debut of the decade is already reserved for Bronco, which will also get a lighter version.

Furthermore, the Blue Oval company plans a refresh for the subcompact segment, where Puma could replace EcoSport. On the other end of the lineup, the comeback of the truck-based Excursion is a hot topic. Mach-E is the first electric SUV coming next year. Ford also offers some SUVs and crossovers outside the US with different names, such as Everest and Kuga.

2021 Ford Bronco

This vehicle was supposed to debut this season. But, an unpredicted delay and the COVID-19 outburst postponed the premiere. Back in 2016, when Ford announced the comeback of the legendary SUV, most fans thought it was just a trick. It was discontinued 20 years before that because of the negative image the OJ case caused.

However, the 2021 Ford Bronco is ready to come back. Still, the company is not providing any info. We could see the SUV under a blanket, but it doesn’t show anything big. Leaked sources claim the new Bronco will go after the Jeep Wrangler. It will be an interesting battle of off-roaders.

Well, we also don’t have details about the drivetrain. Ford might prepare a special petrol unit for the 2021 Bronco. However, a 3.0-liter diesel is also an option. One thing is sure – Bronco will be power-oriented, without hybrid and fuel-efficient models.

Don’t Miss a Thing About the 2021 Ford Bronco

2021 Ford Escape

The new Escape already debuted, but it will fully shine next season. The carmaker redesigned the compact crossover to catch up with Toyota Rav4 and Honda CR-V. But, not everything is in styling. More important upgrade came under the hood, where the new 2021 Ford Escape keeps a hybrid configuration. Now, the system returns 44 mpg, which is the new class-leading mileage.

Fresh design and such outputs will definitely draw more customers. That is why we position the 2021 Ford Escape so high in this list. With more than 300,000 sales per annum, this is also the second best-selling vehicle in the family. The base offer includes an inline-three engine and 180 hp. Turbo-four enhances the power output to 250 ponies. The base price for the 2021 Ford Escape will be just under $25,000. Heavily loaded, it will cost as much as the luxury Lincoln Corsair.

2021 Ford Mach-E Electric SUV

The big electrification plan and billions of investments start to pay off. The first electric SUV by Ford is arriving next year. Mach E is a Mustang-based model with EV drivetrain. Specs are not final yet, but the company aims for 300 miles and 0-60 times in just 3.4 seconds. Also, Ford has been working on the advanced charging system. In just 10 minutes, you will get enough power for a 60-miles ride.

The 2021 Ford Mach-E will share a lot with the legendary pony car. It even carries its badge at the front fascia. Of course, the electric SUV doesn’t need large air vents. The styling is attractive and the vehicle is a five-seater. Sales will start late in 2020 and the price of the base model will be around $45,000.

2021 Ford Explorer

Refreshed, Explorer is going to take on the best-selling three-row midsize SUVs. Ford didn’t go too far with the new hybrid system. A V6 and electric batteries are making a system that produces 320 hp. In the premium segment, engineers tuned Lincoln Aviator to 500 ponies through a PHEV configuration. Well, the 2021 Ford Explorer can respond to needs of buyers looking for the performance-oriented model. The ST will bring you 400 ponies from a twin-turbo 3.0 V6 system.

There’s a lot more for different types of buyers. If you are looking for a premium offer, the 2021 Ford Explorer Platinum is an excellent choice. In the matter of fact, it uses the same engine as the ST but downgraded to 365 ponies. On the other hand, you will get leather upholstery, dual-panel sunroof, and a few unique upgrades on the body.

2021 Ford Expedition

The 2021 Ford Expedition will be the largest SUV you can buy with the Blue Oval logo up front. The vehicle is more than 200 inches long and it grows to 225 inches if you opt for the extended Expedition Max. Advantages are power output and plenty of space inside the vehicle. A 3.5-liter twin-turbo engine can produce 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. Expedition is also the best SUV for towing with 9,300 pounds. Next season Chevy Suburban could beat this with a diesel engine.

The current version of the SUV dates from 2018 and Ford will bring some changes. However, nothing big is expected in 2021 and 2022. Platinum model is sitting at the top of the lineup. There is no V8 engine in the offer. The only eight about the 2021 Ford Expedition is the number of seating spots. Still, you can pick captain’s chairs in the middle row, cutting down one seat. The pricing for the Expedition starts at $53,000.

2022 Ford Excursion

Expedition is currently the largest SUV in the family. However, the comeback of the 2022 Ford Excursion will make a new order. It’s been nearly twenty years since the nameplate appeared. The SUV was based on the F-250 heavy-duty truck. With the new generation of the Super Duty pickups debuted, we can also see the new Excursion.

There are more good reasons for that. First of all, the SUV market is expanding. We are seeing more and more different types of vehicles every season. The new super-size model wouldn’t be a surprise. Also, Ford added a 7.3-liter V8 engine for the F-250 truck. The same engine would fit perfectly under the hood of the 2022 Ford Excursion. On the other hand, the midsize truck market is reviving and this could be the major competition to the comeback of the largest truck-based SUV.

Ready for the Comeback: Ford Excursion

2021 Ford EcoSport

The 2021 Ford EcoSport might be the last edition of the subcompact crossover. The company is preparing the replacement for its slowest-selling vehicle in the lineup. Still, Ford is not going to give up from this class like the carmaker did it with some sedans.

A 1.0-liter inline-three engine is definitely the main reason why you should go after the 2021 Ford EcoSport. Turbocharged, it returns 123 hp and 125 lb-ft of torque, keeping the gas mileage at the decent level. Still, the company is not offering an all-wheel drive, neither for the I-3 nor the four-pot unit. If you want more power, then the other engine can provide 166 hp and 150 lb-ft. Another good reason to purchase the 2021 Ford EcoSport is its price. This is also the cheapest model in the SUV family.

2021 Ford Puma

Speaking of the replacement, the 2021 Ford Puma should take the EcoSport’s place in the US. The vehicle already debuted across the ocean and it already offers the performance-oriented ST version. It is just a matter of time when will the company make it available in North America.

After debut, the new 2021 Ford Puma ST is going to raise the game to another level. A 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is the favorite to be the drivetrain for this model, since we cannot peak under the hood of test mules. Experts think 200 ponies are more than enough for such a vehicle. Of course, there are a few exterior and interior upgrades. We will see new bumpers and headlights. Inside, red stitches will make the contrasting design and the company will pay a lot of attention to infotainment system.

2022 Ford Edge

The mid-size two-row SUVs are still popular. Still, if you are looking for a better fuel economy, there are compact vehicles, and if you need more space, three-row models will step up. The current generation debuted in 2015 and Edge had a facelift last season. So, we won’t expect too much from the upcoming season. Instead, the company will focus on the 2022 Ford Edge and launch the new generation.

The base engine will remain V6 petrol. Other systems are about to debut on the 2022 Ford Edge as well. The carmaker is not going to unveil details for at least 12 more months. But, our intelligence reports a hybrid is the most likely to be the first optional choice. The new Edge is not going to offer the third row of seats.

Minor Changes on the 2021 Ford Edge

2022 Ford Baby Bronco

The arrival of the Bronco SUV caused a lot of rumors. Fans want to see some other vehicles based on the legendary model. The first one we heard of is the truck. But, the most recent spy photos are showing a smaller version of the SUV called 2022 Ford Baby Bronco. Since the base model is delayed for the next season, its variations will have to wait for this debut. After that, we will see what else will carry the Bronco badge.

Well, we don’t have too many details on the base SUV. On the other hand, spy photos of the 2022 Ford Baby Bronco are already available. We found chassis loading in plants and some images are showing the first test mules. What it is going to be, we still don’t know. If the Bronco is going to battle Wrangler, then the 2022 Ford Baby Bronco could take on the two-door version.

2021 Ford Kuga

The 2021 Ford Kuga is entering the new generation. This is the renamed Escape for European market. The carmaker waited for a year before they brought the new Kuga to buyers in this part of the world. Do not be surprised if the new SUV gets bigger. Reports say the production will be moved to Russia and the 2021 Ford Kuga will be based on the Edge. A V6 will replace the existing engine.

Still, Ford will have to find a replacement for the hottest market in Europe. Mid-size SUVs are not as popular as compact crossovers. So, the US carmaker won’t leave a vacant spot there. On the other hand, the new Puma is not big enough to meet buyers’ demands from this class. A hybrid model is also likely to happen.

2020-2021 Best European crossover SUVs Not Available in the US… YET!

2021 Ford Everest (Endeavour)

We are moving from Europe to Pacific Asia. One of the most popular models in this part of the world is a truck-based SUV. The 2021 Ford Everest is the nameplate you will see in most countries, while in India, this vehicle is called Endeavour. The inspiration for the SUV is found on the Ranger truck. Still, both sport utility vehicles are using smaller displacements.

The biggest engine in the lineup is a 3.2-liter Duratorq diesel. The only petrol unit is a 2.0-liter EcoBoost. Buyers in different locations will also find a few more options. A 2.2-liter turbodiesel is definitely the best choice. The 2021 Ford Everest will be built on the ladder frame, making it more durable and capable for off-roading.

2021 Ford Territory

With so many vehicles in the lineup, we don’t know where the 2021 Ford Territory could fit. Still, there are a lot of fans asking about its comeback. The midsize crossover SUV had a long run in Australia before the discontinuation in 2016. We can say that Everest replaced it, but these are not the same vehicles. Still, in last few years, Territory was achieving really poor sales numbers, so the discontinuation was the only solution.

We expect to see the 2021 Ford Territory as a kind of Explorer for this part of the world. Australian department gave some indications about the return, but nothing was officially announced. A pair of diesel engines won’t be there again and Ford will have to figure out how to bring back the old, but still popular nameplate to this part of the world.
