2020 Honda CR-V

Price: $25,000

Another Japanese model is at the top of the charts. CR-V is on par with Nissan Rogue and Chevrolet Equinox in sales in 2019. We expect more from the next model since it is bringing a hybrid engine to the table. The 2020 Honda CR-V is something you really should try. The combination of a reliable engine and stylish appearance is definitely what sells Honda’s vehicles.

Under the hood of the 2020 Honda CR-V is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. For the new season, the drivetrain is tuned to deliver 185 hp and 180 lb-ft. But, you can get 5 ponies extra if you choose a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. Not only that, but the turbo-four engine boosts the fuel economy to 30 mpg combined (FWD).

The hybrid version is definitely stealing the show. The new model will be able to return 45 mpg for city drive. The 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid also produces 212 hp and 232 lb-ft of twist power from a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle unit.

Still, the 2020 Chevy Equinox will offer you a turbo-four unit, and a diesel drivetrain.

Cargo space for the new version reaches 30 cubic feet behind rear seats. With these folded down, the volume jumps to 64 cubic feet. Most changes for the 2020 Chevy Equinox are cosmetic. FULL REVIEW

The base price of the 2020 Jeep Cherokee is slightly higher than for the competition. The new model is not bringing too many novelties. Still, the company is improving safety and infotainment systems. Amazon Alexa is now available. Cosmetic changes for the 2020 Cherokee are new wheels, exterior colors, and interior materials.

The biggest advantage of this compact crossover is its versatility. There are eight trim levels. Trailhawk and Trailhawk Elite are off-road capable models with 4×4 drive. Still, the base versions are missing some choices to compete at the top level. A 2.4-liter engine is proven, but the 2020 Jeep Cherokee needs more options. A manual transmission is a cool option if you are an old-school fan.

2020 Jeep Compass

FULL REVIEW

The 2020 Jeep Compass Hybrid is the first of a kind in the family. The company is testing Wrangler PHEV, but this model is not official yet. Compass and Renegade debuted and it is just a matter of time when these crossovers are coming. Slightly smaller than rivals, the hybrid version will improve the already excellent fuel economy. Like for the Cherokee, we find a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine as the base unit.

Estimated specs for the new 2020 Jeep Compass Hybrid say the crossover will sprint to 60 mph in seven seconds. Also, the power output will be between 200 and 240 hp. The PHEV version allows the vehicle to speed up to 80 mph. The electric range should be 31 miles. Unfortunately, the company didn’t say anything about the pricing of the hybrid versions. 2020 Subaru Forester

Price: $24,500

Hybrid: No

When choosing a Subaru vehicle, you are getting a unique drive experience. Unfortunately, a turbo version of the Boxer engine is not available yet. However, a flat-four unit delivers something you can’t find elsewhere. That is the main reason why we expect a lot from the 2020 Subaru Forester. Well, the new model is mostly unchanged. Minor updates are not making it more attractive than before. Optional features and options are slightly shuffled and that is all.

But, let’s get back to the Boxer engine. It is a 2.5-liter flat-four powerplant capable of producing 182 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. A turbo version could raise these numbers and other performance. The lower center of gravity provides better handling and balance. Also, the flat-four unit increases safety with its position. This is a segment where we are seeing the most changes for the 2020 Subaru Forester since the crossover is getting Rear Seat Reminder and EyeSight aid features. The new model earns five stars by NHTSA.

2020 Subaru Forester

2020 Mazda CX-5

Price: $25,750

Hybrid: No

There is nothing new for the 2020 Mazda CX-5. This is a carry-over model. However, the crossover is one of the most exciting vehicles to own. Besides the standard engine, there are turbocharged version and diesel powertrain. A 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated version can produce 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque.

The same drivetrain uses turbochargers to boost the power to 250 hp and 310 lb-ft. As you could notice, there are no other vehicles with such high outputs. Finally, there is the freshest part of the powerplant lineup – a 2.2-liter turbodiesel unit. Available only with an AWD, it achieves 27/30 mpg.

That is not all since we can hear rumors about the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Hybrid. Well, it seems like European buyers will get this model based on a diesel drivetrain. Fans in the USA will have to wait at least until the 2021 season.

FULL REVIEW

There are two noteworthy changes for the 2020 VW Tiguan. The first one is a price increase of $650. The starting cost for the compact crossover is $24,850 (S trim). Well, the company added the Driver Assist suite, which costed $450 as an optional upgrade. The 4Motion AWD will cost you $1,300. The powertrain for the 2020 VW Tiguan is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit. 180 hp and 220 lb-ft are enough for a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 lbs. The most expensive versions of the Volkswagens compact crossover will cost over $40,000.

2020 VW Tiguan

2020 Hyundai Tucson

Price: $24,450

Hybrid: No

The leather steering wheel and four new colors are all the new 2020 Hyundai Tucson is bringing. But, the company didn’t finish the update. The engine room will soon get a revisit and the new model is about to join the lineup. The Tucson N Sport crossover is being tested in Germany and it will be able to burst over 300 hp.

The base version is mostly unchanged. There is a couple of four-pot powerplants under the bonnet. The base version is coming with a 2.0-liter unit (165 hp, 150 lb-ft), while you can pick a 2.4-liter displacement for more juice (180 hp, 175 pound-feet).

A few years ago this model stood no chance in the US market. However, reliability and the attractive price made it impress the buyers. Now, the 2020 Hyundai Tucson is on par with other vehicles in price, design quality, engine reliability, and all other segments.

2020 Hyundai Tucson

2020 Kia Sportage

Price: $23,990

Hybrid: No

Kia and Hyundai are both coming from the same country. But these carmakers are not rivals. They recognized the chance to be successful if they join forces in some areas. For example, the 2020 Kia Sportage will use the same 2.4-liter engine as Tucson. The optional drivetrain is a 2.0-liter turbo-four unit with 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Towing capacity is 2,000 pounds and at its best, the 2020 Sportage will return 30 mpg. The major lack remains a thirsty AWD (highway gas mileage drops to 26 mpg).

Like its rivals, the Korean company worked on the safety improvements for the 2020 Kia Sportage. Now, the driver-assist package includes intelligent cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning. Inside the cabin, you will find an eight-inch touchscreen display. The new 2020 Kia Sportage is just shy of $24,000 while the range-topping trims reach $33,500 (SX Turbo).
