XT5 is slowly becoming the flagship model. For Cadillac, that is still Escalade. But, the sales of the compact premium crossover SUV heated up the interest in expanding the lineup. Already, we have XT4 and XT6, and the GM doesn’t plan to stop there. They will challenge their rivals in all classes. However, the 2020 Cadillac XT5 is still a priority. For the next season, we won’t see too big changes, since the vehicle is only two years old. So, the configurations will remain the same, and the only possible upgrade is a hybrid drivetrain. Whatsoever, without confirmation, we can’t claim the vehicle is coming next season.
Last year Cadillac sold 60,000 units of its compact crossover. It was a 50 percent boost compared to a previous season. With such growth, we can expect more and more from this SUV in the future. Currently, it uses only one drivetrain. On the other hand, four trim levels will be available, with extra packages available for further upgrades. The price is eye-catching. For this size of the vehicle you would say too high, but when you feel the comfort the premium crossover is offering $43,000 will seem like a bargain.
2020 Cadillac XT5 Engine Specifications
Under the hood of the 2020 Cadillac XT5 will be the same V6 engine as before. A 3.6-liter unit sends power to front wheels by default and all-wheel drive is optional. The engine is making 310 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. The powertrain is one of the most reliable units GM has to offer, and it is available for all important vehicles. The XT5 is using an eight-speed automatic transmission with electronically controlled shifting. There is no need to upgrade to a new ten-speed gearbox. At least Cadillac thinks so. The fuel economy is not the brightest thing about the crossover with only 22 mpg combined for FWD models. The gas mileage drops by 1 point when AWD is installed. The maximum towing capacity of the crossover is 3,500 pounds. However, Trailering package is required.
Hybrid
It is not a secret that GM is developing a hybrid engine. However, there are no too many details about this unit. The company’s main vehicle is counting on this upgrade, including Chevy Colorado pickup truck, GMC Acadia SUV, and the 2020 Cadillac XT5 premium crossover. A hybrid drivetrain would improve fuel economy numbers, which are one of the downsides of the XT5. On the other hand, the power output would gain some numbers. For example, Toyota Highlander boosts horsepower rating by 10 points and returns 30 mpg combined. Similar numbers could happen to General Motors’ premium crossover SUV.
2020 Cadillac XT5 Options and Colors
The 2020 Cadillac XT5 is going to offer 18-inch wheels, rear camera, parking sensors, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, four USB ports, and premium audio system, all as the standard features. The base model upgrades to the Luxury trim and buyers are getting a unique moonroof, heated front seats, steering wheel, and outside mirrors, extra safety features such as distance indicator, lane keep and departure alert, and many more.
Upper trim is Premium Luxury. It upgrades the previous model with 14-speaker Bose audio and navigation. Furthermore, LED lamps are not available only in headlights, but also as a welcome greeting. You will get better handling and steering thanks to performance suspension and 20-inch wheels. Top of the class 2020 Cadillac XT5 Platinum crossover is using premium leather. More drive modes and features are installed. Head-up display, a hands-free liftgate, and surround vision are also part of this luxury offer.
The new XT5 will refresh paintjob shop. Silver is the base for all except the Platinum model. The most expensive version will offer a few special colors. For all other trims, you will have to pay $600 for a paint upgrade. Inside, you will have more options for Luxury and Premium Luxury versions, while the Platinum package brings two unique color combinations. Depending on a trim you choose, there will be various optional packages available to boost both exterior and interior.
Prices
The base price of the premium compact crossover is $43,000. The Luxury package will cost around $50k. Above this mark is a Premium Luxury model with a price tag of $55,000. The Platinum version costs $66,000. It is near the price you will pay for the entry-level full-size premium SUV. For example, Cadillac Escalade with three rows of seats will cost from $75,000.
2020 Cadillac XT5 vs Competition
The premium compact crossover class is very crowded. As always, GM and Ford are archrivals. So it is in the luxury segment. Rival for the 2020 Cadillac XT5 by Blue Oval company will be Lincoln Nautilus. Lexus is one of the most popular brands in the premium class and its compact crossover is NX. BMW X3, Mercedes GLC, and Audi Q5 are also worthy of consideration. Based on the XT5 and Escala concept, Cadillac will add even more XT models in the future.
