After we heard the company is preparing the replacement, we started to doubt in 2020 Grand Vitara. However, there are not many details about this process. Well, this would be a shocking move. After 30 years of production, the Grand Vitara could see the discontinuation.

Not so fast. Since we can’t find a reliable source to confirm these stories, we will turn to more realistic options. First of all – why would Suzuki cut its flagship model? It is one of the reasons why we recognize the Japanese company in the market. The replacement would need time to establish its name in the SUV market.

The advantages of the 2020 Grand Vitara will be the same as before – versatility, thanks to the engine lineup, and off-road capabilities, thanks to the 4×4 system. The new model could get a hybrid engine as well. Suzuki teamed up with Toyota with a clear intention – to build more hybrids. This is not going to be the only refresh under the hood. Some say a new 1.0-liter engine is also becoming available from 2020.

Styling – Mostly Unchanged

Designers are not preparing cosmetic changes for the 2020 Grand Vitara. The previous model introduced a redesign with a lot of modifications. A new bumper with parking sensors beneath it, the new infotainment system with a larger display, and extra safety features including collision avoidance system were major updates the crossover got.

However, the new 2020 year model will also need some changes to refresh the appearance. Fans and enthusiasts expect the new generation in the next couple of years, so Suzuki is not putting too much effort into the redesigning Vitara.

Sport and 3-Door Model

The most interesting version in the last few years was Vitara S or Grand Vitara Sport model. The company used this badge a long time ago. But, in the last generation, the Sport model was brought back and immediately drew a lot of attention. Turbo engine provided more power and torque, leather gets the leather upholstery, and unique grille and wheels were the highlights of the exterior.

Another interesting version of the Grand Vitara crossover is coming from Australia. In this country, buyers can find the model with the three-door layout. It is called 2020 Grand Vitara Navigator and the crossover comes back after five years of break in production.

Interior in the fabric can be upgraded with leather in some trim levels. The new Grand Vitara will offer a power outlet, AUX and CD player, cruise control, and many other accessories. You can connect your phone via Bluetooth and play some music on a 6-speaker audio system. Hill Assist Start is standard. Notable safety features are ABS, stability control, and parking sensors.

New Drivetrain Systems for 2020 Grand Vitara

The company unveiled that a 1.0-liter engine is a new powertrain for the 2020 Grand Vitara. The new-look crossover is going to be available with a three-cylinder Boosterjet engine, which has 111 hp at 5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 170 Nm at 2,000 to 3,500 rpm. This unit is paired with a five-speed manual transmission and front or all-wheel drive. Combined with a six-speed automatic gearbox and an FWD, the same powertrain achieves 160 Nm. Suzuki’s AllGrip AWD is also available.

Suzuki is making another interesting move by agreeing on the partnership with Toyota. A couple of months ago, both companies unveiled some details of their plans. In short – a mutual interest is the develop more hybrid and electric models. At this point, there are no indications where it will take Suzuki vehicles, but fans believe the flagship Grand Vitara can get a hybrid drivetrain already next season.

Other Engines

Other solutions are either 1.4-liter four-pot or a 1.6-liter motor. The first one is capable to produce 140 hp and it needs 10 seconds to sprint 0-60 mph. It seems like the most markets will get only a manual gearbox as a pair of a 1.4-liter engine. The largest displacement is naturally-aspirated and it serves 120 horsepower. The lack of power is shown in 0-60 mph acceleration. With a 1.6-l unit, Grand Vitara takes 11 seconds.

Finally, there is a diesel engine available for the crossover. A 1.6-liter mill is delivering 120 hp and it pairs both manual and automatic transmissions.

2020 Grand Vitara Is Coming to the US Market?

Well, sorry for the disappointment, but this is not happening. However, the latest moves are indicating the next generation could head to the largest market in the world. Until then, the 2020 Grand Vitara is appearing in the rest of the world. The main markets are in Pacific Asia, where the crossover achieve the best sales numbers.
