Ten years ago, you wouldn’t believe that Kia is going to be one of the players in the SUV market. The business is growing and the name is now recognizable all around the globe. In the US, Kia SUVs and crossovers are selling fast. The company is expanding the lineup and there are no too many vacant spots in the squad.
The latest addition was the mid-size three-row Telluride. It is the largest SUV by Kia. Sorento is still there, as well as the best-selling Sportage. Seltos is the subcompact crossover, with a similar length to Niro, while Soul remains the smallest model. Although the Niro offers an all-electric drivetrain, the new similar vehicle is going to be Kia EV6.
What’s missing? A full-size model. We can say Kia lacks a true off-road SUV. But, outside the US, there is a model called Mohave. Some say the same platform is going to be used for the Kia truck. In China, you will find a couple of KX models. Stonic is being pretty popular in Europe, while there is an even smaller model in India called Sonet.
2022 Kia Telluride
Let’s start with the largest model in the family, the 2022 Kia Telluride. This is a mid-size SUV that accommodates up to eight passengers. The vehicle is 197 inches long (5 meters flat). The company launched Telluride as a 2020 YM. So, we can’t judge its value and popularity yet, because the COVID-19 stormed the market.
You can get this large SUV for $32,000. The SX is the high-end option that adds features for $10,000. The 2022 Kia Telluride will bring only minor changes. More options are available through all trim levels. Nine colors for the exterior and nine interior layouts are also making the building so exciting.
2022 Kia Seltos
From the largest to one of the smallest models in the lineup. The 2022 Kia Seltos is 172 inches long, but it is the newest crossover of all subcompact crossovers the Korean company is going to offer. The price is reasonable, but there are quite a lot of rivals available for less than $23,000. Besides a naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine, there is also a turbocharged mill available at higher trim levels. You will have to invest about $4,000 to get it on SX and Nightfall editions.
The 2022 Kia Seltos won’t suffer any major changes. The vehicle debuted recently, and we still don’t have feedback about its true market value. Well, the warranty is unmatched and Kia also offers cool upgrades for less money than the competition. For the Seltos, we can praise safety options all across the lineup. Plus, AWD is optional. On the other hand, there are plenty of things where the crossover isn’t brilliant. The redesign is not on the schedule before 2024, so we will have to wait for the transmission upgrades.
2022 Kia Sportage
The new generation of the best-selling crossover SUV in the lineup has just hit the dealerships. Fans and experts still discuss about pros and cons. One thing is sure – the 2022 Kia Sportage is not bringing any change to the lineup. Well, a hybrid model would be a great addition. But bosses are still quiet about it.
We like standard packages and optional features for the crossover. One of the major downsides is a lack of cargo space compared to the competition. Among engine choices, you won’t find a hybrid. This is a must-have system for compact crossovers. Plus, if you plan to go for off-road adventures, there are a lot of better options in the market. The MSRP starts around $24,000. So, compared to Seltos, the 2022 Sportage seems like a bargain.
2022 Kia Sorento
Another fresh model is in the market. Kia updated its key nameplates in the past couple of seasons. With the arrival of the Telluride, the position of the 2022 Kia Sportage has changed a bit. It is still a mid-size three-row SUV, with a room for 6 or 7 passengers. The strong side is excellent cargo space.
Interesting, engineers dropped a V6 engine. Instead, buyers are getting a naturally-aspirated four-cylinder with only 190 horsepower. For such a vehicle, that is a poor output. A turbo-four improves the image. A 2.5-liter unit is even more efficient with 29 mpg on the highway. Well, the best gas mileage is coming with a new system. The 2022 Kia Sportage Hybrid is returning 39/35 mpg. A 1.6-liter petrol engine is the center of the configuration. The price of hybrid models starts from $33,600 with the S package and costs $36,600 if you pick the EX.
2022 Kia Soul
The smallest crossover in the lineup is also pretty fresh, with the third generation debuted in 2019. The highlight of the lineup is an all-electric system that will crack 200 hp and 290 lb-ft. The battery is good to cover 243 miles. Meanwhile, the company will work on the recharging system. For now, 10 hours is needed with a speed home charging station. Public fast chargers can restore 80 percent of the energy in just 45 minutes.
Besides the EV, the 2022 Kia Soul will also offer a pair of four-pot engines. With a 2.0-liter mill, you will get 147 horsepower. That is more than most subcompact crossovers in the same class can do. On the other hand Soul Turbo is delivering 200 horsepower with a 1.6-liter turbo unit. Manual and CVT transmission are available, while the most efficient configuration includes an automatic gearbox, front-wheel drive, and a 2.0-liter engine (35 mpg on highway, 29 mpg in city).
2022 Kia Niro
Another crossover that will combine conventional drivetrain and electric battery. The plug-in hybrid is maximizing the gas mileage. Still, other similar vehicles from the same family seem to be more popular than the Niro. Good pricing and extended warranty are good reasons why you should consider the crossover as a good buy. However, engineers and designers will have to fix a few things on the new 2022 Kia Niro.
The subcompact crossover is now the second smallest unit in the lineup. That won’t promise too much space for passengers and cargo. Also, the new Niro needs more assistance features as standard, since those upgrades increase the price rapidly. We are still waiting on the updates about the lineup since only the PHEV is confirmed for 2022. A base hybrid is probably not coming back. The 2022 Kia Niro EV is also questionable because of the other electric concepts which should enter production soon.
2022 Kia EV6
Kia already has electric crossovers. But, the upcoming EV6 is going to take the game to the next level. The 2022 Kia EV6 will be the one with the longest range of around 300+ miles. More than impressing is a new recharging system. The EV6 can restore a battery for the next 60 miles in less than 5 minutes! There will be also the performance version whose highlight is 0-60 mph acceleration. The high-end model will need only 3.5 seconds to do that.
As always, Kia is offering a great warranty on the battery. This time, buyers will get 10 years of coverage. The electric motor can produce 320 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque in the base form. The precise release date is not unveiled yet, but the vehicle is already posted on the official site as the 2022 YM. The First Edition is going to be built only in 1500 examples. Experts believe that the electric crossover is going to cost at least $45,000.
2022 Kia Stonic
The 2022 Kia Stonic is a relatively new crossover for the European market and the smallest model in the segment for this part of the world. The vehicle debuted in 2017 and the upcoming season is going to bring the first big update. Kia set up some high standards, and Stonic, although only four years in the market, is one of the oldest models in the squad.
Small engines are going to power the 2022 Kia Stonic. There are three petrol and one diesel configurations. The offer starts with a 1.0-liter displacement, and there are also 1.2 and 1.4 engines using gasoline. Diesel is a well-known 1.6-liter mill. Manual and automatic transmissions send power to front wheels. The price, converted to USD, is more than attractive, starting below $15,000.
2022 Kia Mohave
Another vehicle whose market is pretty limited is the 2022 Kia Mohave. But, we could see the expansion soon. The Mohave SUV is not new. In the US, you might remember it as the Borrego. That vehicle is still using body-on-frame architecture, which might underpin the pickup truck the company is developing for North America. But, the SUV is not going to happen.
It was redesigned in 2019 and Kia is not touching anything for the 2022 YM. Under the hood, we can find an oil burner. It can’t meet emission requirements in US and European markets. A 3.0-liter mill remains the only powertrain. Mohave used to offer even a V8.
2022 Kia Sonet
The 2022 Kia Sonet is the crossover you can find only in the Indian market. The vehicle is 157 inches long, making it the smallest one on this list. A 1.0-liter turbocharged inline-three engine is delivering 118 hp and 127 lb-ft of torque, which is not a bad result. Bigger displacements are not so potent. A 1.2-liter petrol configuration is good for 82 horsepower, while a 1.5-liter mill can burst 113 ponies. A 1.5-liter turbodiesel can be tuned to 100 or 115 horsepower, while the torque sits between 177-185 lb-ft, depending on the transmission choice. The price of this small crossover, converted from local currencies to USD, starts under $13,000.
2022 Kia KX
In China, you will find the entire lineup of Kia crossovers and SUVs behind the KX- alphanumeric nomenclature. The smallest one is the KX3. The subcompact crossover is 171 inches long and it shares the platform with Seltos. The KX5 is the Sportage for this particular market. A larger unit is the KX7. It brings the most differences compared to Sorento SUV. Still, a lot of similarities are going to make these two mechanical twins.
