It seems like the upcoming season is going to be one of the most interesting in the SUV market. We already know that a few new models are coming out, a few will be redesigned, and there are numerous rumors floating about the most popular models.
Here are the details about the 2024 SUVs coming out with significant changes and big expectations. There are even a few EVs. Such models will be more frequent on such lists from 2025 and 2026.
2024 Toyota Grand Highlander (New Model)
The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander will be a larger version of the standard SUV. The Highlander is the most popular three-row vehicle in the US. The Grand Highlander will make it even more attractive. The SUV comes with petrol and hybrid engines. The Hybrid Max fixes one of the main issues of the standard SUV – a low power output. Plus, the “Grand” stands for a larger vehicle, with extra space in the third row and cargo area.
The base price of the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander will be $43,000. XLE, Limited and Platinum grades are ready for the debut. A 2.4-liter turbo-four engine delivers 265 hp. Hybrid unit is the same one you are getting with the standard Highlander. The new SUV is larger and heavier, so expect a decrease of the mileage.
2024 Honda Pilot PHEV
It is finally happening. Rumors about the redesign are swirling around for years. Pilot made a strong impact in 2015 with the debut of the current generation. The SUV aged and the fourth generation was released this year. But, Honda didn’t finish the upgrade. The 2024 Pilot PHEV is being tested and experts believe it will be out next year.
This is not the first time the company is testing the hybrid version of the SUV. But, this time, it is a must, since the competition are already taking advantage of the new technology. A 3.5-liter engine is still under the hood of the standard version. We don’t have clues about the plug-in hybrid, yet.
2024 BMW X5 LCI (Redesign)
The LCI stands for the “Life Cycle Impulse”, or the mid-cycle facelift. The new 2024 BMW X5 LCI will update the old luxury SUV and here are the first details about the redesign.
Engineers have revisited engines and now those systems feature a new hybrid technology. Inline-six and V8 are the options. Thanks to the upgrade, the 2024 BMW X5 LCI delivers more power. Plus, the plug-in hybrid xDrive50e extends the range. Inside, the iDrive8 infotainment will make a statement and impact the entire luxury market with the huge curved display. Highway Assistant is added as well. The production of the US model starts later this year and the German company will start selling the 2024 BMW X5 LCI in autumn.
2024 Infiniti QX80 Monograph (All-New Luxury SUV)
The QX80 is not a new nameplate in the market. But, the upcoming version is going to switch from an old platform to the new concept. It is called Monograph and Infiniti introduced it a couple of years ago. Fans already expected it, but the development was slowed down. So far, we could see glimpses of the fresh architecture on the QX60, mid-size SUV. Now, it is time for the full-size model to shine.
The 2024 Infiniti QX80 Monograph brings a bold and aggressive look. Of course, the production model won’t be the same as the prototype we saw earlier. But, the concept is something that can enter production. It is futuristic, but not far-fetched. Also, the company might revisit the drivetrain room and replace an old and thirsty V8, despite its durability.
2024 Lexus GX 550 (New Generation)
Lexus filed for the new trademark – the GX550. If we compare this situation to some previous, similar circumstances, the 2024 Lexus GX 550 is definitely coming out. Here are more certain things. The GX needs to be redesigned after 15 years of the current edition. Rumors about that are already old. But, with the appearance of the new nameplate, we can estimate the release date.
It happened with the LX as well, when the company filed for the LX600 badge. Again, we won’t know what the new number in the alphanumeric nameplate means. Previously, that was the indicator of engine displacement. Now, LX 600 might only show a close value of the torque level. Besides the redesign, the 2024 Lexus GX 550 should also get a new engine. The company is downsizing units, so we don’t see the GX being an exclusion.
2024 Toyota 4Runner (6th Generation)
The 2024 Toyota 4Runner is a very close relative to the Lexus GX. But, we have some kind of an indication that the luxury SUV is about to introduce changes. All we know about the upcoming 4Runner is coming from various sources. But, the redesign of the Lexus SUV might also mean that Toyota non-premium model is also being prepared for the new generation.
And it is about time. The 4Runner is also old. Still, the rugged look and durability make it competitive. The SUV is an off-road specialist. Its fans are tuning their rides, so the base look is not so important. But, changes under the hood might affect criticism. Toyota already replaced some six- and eight-cylinder units with smaller blocks, and the 2024 Toyota 4Runner is the next one to introduce a new powerplant.
2024 Mercedes GLE (Revisited Body, Upgraded Hybrid System)
Mercedes is a synonym for luxury. The German company never fails to impress. But, the competition in the mid-size premium SUV class is tough. That is why we always see innovations on the GLE. The upcoming 2024 YM comes with revisited bumpers, front and rear, a changed grille, and more wheel designs. Inside, true fans will notice minor changes on air vents. The company also adds a few color choices. Inside, those are two-tone themes. More optional features will be available, such as a suspension that boosts off-road drive.
Speaking of performance, the 2024 Mercedes GLE is ready for everything, thanks to the wide range of engines. The offer starts with a turbo-four engine. This one is not going to impress you, but saves some fuel in the city drive. But, a high-end V8 is definitely something that brings the difference. For the 2024 YM, the GLE400e is the new hybrid system that combines petrol engine and electric motors for a more efficient ride. The price of the fresh model will be around $77,000.
2024 Cadillac Escalade (Redesign, Spy Photos)
After a year of waiting, there is no chance that Cadillac will let down fans by not bringing the redesigned Escalade. The luxury SUV was spotted several times with a heavy camo. We saw both standard and extended ESV versions. Nevertheless, the company won’t let out any detail. One of the things we expect to see is the EV version. But, such drivetrains are already announced for the Silverado truck and Tahoe SUV, both members of the GM family.
The 2024 Cadillac Escalade comes with a fresh front fascia. Spy photos are showing the Sport model (gloss black details spotted). Also, there will be similarities to the Lyriq SUV, the new electric vehicle by Cadillac. Furthermore, some of the new design language details will be carried over to the compact XT4, which also enters the market next year with serious changes.
2024 Nissan Armada (Full Redesign, New V6 Engine)
The redesign and updates should happen a long time ago. But now, we expect the 2024 Nissan Armada as the all-new SUV. Well, there are no spy photos, test mules, and official sources to speak in public. But, our people in the company told that the new 2024 Armada will be slightly smaller than before. It is not a secret that the carmaker is looking to replace a thirsty V8 engine with something more efficient. The updated drivetrain comes out with the 2024 Armada.
Besides that, designers will have to make a few bold moves. The first one is to make the body slightly smaller. It will affect comfort and space inside the cabin. But, you trade it for extra miles. The Monograph platform of the Infiniti luxury SUV could offer some solutions. What’s more – we can see spy photos of the Patrol SUV, showing a new body. This is a big SUV for non-US buyers.
2024 Chevy Tahoe EV (Truck-Based Electric SUV)
General Motors is not going to offer hybrid systems for its SUVs and crossovers. Instead, the company goes straight to the electric world. There are a few models already in production – GMC Hummer, Cadillac Lyriq, Chevy Bold. Plus, the new projects are announced. The most interesting is the Silverado EV. Standard truck is sharing platform with full-size SUVs – Tahoe and Suburban. So, if Silverado goes all-electric, both big rigs are following.
The drivetrain system will be carried over. That means the 2024 Chevy Tahoe EV will be ready to produce up to 754 hp and 785 lb-ft of torque. Maximum range goes up to 400 miles. Big units are needed, so a lighter configuration will be there for the entry-level Tahoe Electric. The full-size SUV will be able to sprint 0-60 mph in just 6.5 seconds. The price won’t be a bargain.
2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV (Electric SUV)
Speaking of electric vehicles – you will hear of General Motors and its brands very often in next couple of years. Besides Silverado and Tahoe, there is another official debut set for the next season. The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV is coming out later this year. The base price of the electric SUV is $45,000.
Wait, there is more. Chevy is bringing back the Blazer SS, but as the EV. This is the best upgrade we’ve heard from the bow-tie company. It triggers further rumors – will there be more vehicles with the SuperSport package? Will all of them be EVs? Well, this is not a cheap upgrade. The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS will cost close to $70,000.
2024 Polestar 3 (Ultra-Luxury Electric SUV)
Volvo EX90 electric is already out. Now, it is time for the luxury branch to upgrade the offer. It is strange to say that Volvo has a premium segment, with the Swedish company being one of the most recognizable carmakers of high-end quality vehicles. But, the 2024 Polestar 3 is ready to take the game to another level. Late in 2022, the new model was announced and now we are waiting to see everything it brings.
From what we know so far, the SUV will be ready to deliver 510 horsepower and 670 lb-ft of torque. Optional configurations can enhance the battery pack, which will have a range up to 370 miles. A six-digit price was never in doubt. The 2024 Polestar 3 will start off from $135k.
2024 Mazda CX-90 (New SUV)
Mazda is no longer in a partnership with Ford. That opened doors to new projects and the Japanese company already built an inline-six engine. The 2024 Mazda CX-90 will feature this one. The powerplant uses electric support, creating a mighty plug-in hybrid with 280 horsepower. A few drive modes are available across the lineup, including Sport and Off-Road. Sales start later this year as 2024 YM, and the base price of the CX-90 is $40k.
There are two configurations available for the new SUV. The 3.3-liter inline-three engine can deliver 280 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. That is not bad for the three-row SUV. But, further enhancement squeezes more power – 340 hp and 369 lb-ft. The performance version will be good enough to compete with some premium brands and SUVs.
2024 Ford Excursion (Comeback)
After tons of rumors, we finally found some speculations about the return of the heavy-duty 2024 Ford Excursion SUV. The upcoming model will be based on the F-250 truck. The Super Duty lineup was updated recently, so the Excursion can borrow a lot from siblings. It will be the largest SUV in the market, with plenty of space for passengers and cargo.
Plus, Ford has new engines to power such a huge vehicle. The 7.3-liter Godzilla is the safe choice. But, fans and experts are still trying to figure out if the SUV can take benefits from a turbodiesel V8 mill. Well, with it, F-250 and F-350 can haul quite a lot. The 2024 Ford Excursion doesn’t need 20k pounds of towing capacity.
