Next-Gen 2023 BMW X1 To Be Based on the Urban X Concept

392 0

The new X1 subcompact luxury crossover might be inspired by the Urban X concept. We still don’t know if this is going to happen next season. It is time for the next generation since the current model is out since 2015. The 2023 BMW X1 will keep its position in the lineup. It is larger than the X2. Like in the rest of the squad, odd numbers represent a more SUV-ish approach to the design, while even numbers are reserved for coupe styling. That is the relation between X1 and X2. One of the key differences such a body brings is more space inside the cabin, and subcompact vehicles are already lacking room.

The new Urban X platform will underpin the next-gen small crossovers. The X1 and X2 will be those, but we are not sure yet about the schedule of production. It seems unlikely that the 2023 BMW X1 will belong to the new generation, although the company hasn’t made any big change in the past two seasons. In case the 2023 YM is the carryover, then the following model will definitely launch the third series of the subcompact luxury SUV.

Why Buy 2023 BMW X1?

Everything depends on the level of changes on the 2023 BMW X1. The all-new model brings pros and cons. Many things will be updated, but will buyers like it. A current version is out for a while. It is reliable and durable, and the company fixed most issues through a couple of facelifts. As always, BMW is following modern trends and uses the latest technologies in its vehicles. So, X1 is going to use them, no matter if old or new generations are out. Well, the fresh model will come with a more practical dashboard, like its bigger siblings.

Nevertheless, the handling and performance were the best things about the current version. We are sure the German company will keep those features. Engineers need to improve the comfort of the ride since it can be a bit stiff. The turbocharged engine accelerates smoothly. Also, as the entry-level SUV, the 2023 BMW X1 will cost pretty reasonably, compared to other vehicles by the Bavarian carmaker. It is still a luxury model, so not too many buyers are willing to spend $35,000 for the small SUV. The new X1 is going to allow both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto services.

What is Urban X Concept?

As the platform for the smallest models in the lineup, the Urban X would be the perfect fit for the 2023 BMW X1 and X2 CUV. Some experts say it could be also an all-new model, positioned under the current entry-level crossover. Well, with nearly half of sales coming from the X-range, there won’t be any doubts about why BMW is expanding the lineup.

For now, the Urban X is just a concept. It is the platform for small crossovers. But, the architecture is also going to allow the electrification of the vehicle. Other crossovers and SUVs will take the same path in the foreseeable future. Nevertheless, although the EVs lineup is growing, most fans still don’t trust the new technology. Conventional units with internal combustion are still dominating. In most markets, the X1 will achieve the best sales with a diesel engine.

Conclusion

The 2023 BMW X1 stays one of the most affordable models by the German carmaker. Although, the price is hefty if we compare it to other subcompact crossovers. However, the X1 brings advanced technology and an upgraded drivetrain that will take the ride impression to another level. Still, there is a lot of room for improvements as well.

First of all, the vehicle is now already old. In this segment, changes are more frequent. Some small crossovers are being updated every few years. And the second generation of the X1 is out for a while. The styling is old, especially inside the cabin. The focus of the redesign will be on the dashboard and comfort. A hybrid engine might boost power outputs and gas mileage.

2023 BMW X1 Specs

The smallest crossover of the BMW family is using a single drivetrain. That is a 2.0-liter turbo-four mill with 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. It is enough to make the 2023 BMW X1 sprint to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds. Unlike its larger siblings, this small SUV is not using the xDrive as the standard configuration. Power goes to front wheels by default. An all-wheel drive costs $2,000.

The new version, after the redesign, will cost more, that is for sure. But, everything depends on the level of upgrades. A hybrid unit will make the X1 cost closer to $40,000 since it will most probably use the xDrive only. Also, the Urban X concept will allow complete electrification. Such a BMW will be available one day, but not in 2023. Before we see an all-electric subcompact crossover, the iX5 and iX3 are going to debut.
