Lexus LX 600 – Here is What We Found Out About the Next-Gen SUV

Lexus filed documentation for the new trademark. The name the company wants to obtain is LX600. So, we have a new generation of the full-size luxury SUV coming soon? This was not a surprise, especially knowing the new Land Cruiser 300 Series is just around the corner. But, the Lexus LX 600 could give us some hints about the further steps, release dates, and all other things the company is not going to make official any time soon.

So, let’s start from scratches. The company filed for a new name on October 12. It’s been two months and we are still waiting for processing the request. Until this happens, the carmaker is not going out with official statements. On the other hand, they can develop a new SUV. The nameplate unveils some intentions, but still leaves a lot of questions unanswered. We browsed for the answers and here are the most interesting theories.

Engines

As you know, Lexus frequently uses its nomenclature to unveil the engine. For example, Lexus LX 570 used a 5.7-liter unit. The GX 460 comes with 4.6-l displacement and RX 350 with a 3.5 engine. So, is Lexus LX 600 telling that we have the new largest powerplant by Toyota?

We doubt so. Engineers are working on a more efficient unit. A 5.7-liter returns 15 mpg combined (by the company). However, drivers are complaining about these numbers, reporting their SUVs can do 15 mpg on the highway only, with the careful ride.

So, a 6.0-liter is definitely not something fans are looking for. The RX 450h is not using a 4.5-liter engine. So, the LX 600 doesn’t mean it is a 6.0-l displacement under its bonnet. We would rather say that the company will go with a twin-turbo V6. A 4.0 motor is large enough for this kind of SUV. We won’t make bids with outputs, but owners want more power and torque.

Lexus LX 600 Is a Hybrid?

Well, this is not easy to deny or confirm. Toyota is going to electrify its entire lineup. Only big rigs are not offering hybrid engines. On the other hand, it is understandable, since the electric support harms towing capacity and off-road capabilities. The entire philosophy of such SUVs is built on these two foundations. So, it is like taking the soul of big rigs.

On the other hand, even 15 mpg combined is a very poor return. Plus, complains about the worse mileage are legit, especially if you get off the road. So, the LX 600 will need to sacrifice some power and weight to gain a better fuel economy.

Lexus LX 600 vs Toyota Land Cruiser

These are not rivals, but mechanical twins. Well, there are differences in styling, but Lexus LX and Toyota Land Cruiser are going to share the same destiny. For a long time, fans expect the new generation of the SUV that closed the gap between utility and luxury. But, LC is losing the pace thanks to its aging look. The LX is more aggressive thanks to the spindle grille, but refresh is needed to stay competitive. Both full-size SUVs will enter the new generation at the same time. It is just a matter of tactics when will the Parent company release the models to keep attention.

LX500D Is the New SUV for Russia

Besides the US, Lexus is being very popular in Russia. However, two markets are offering different versions of the models with the same name. For example, Land Cruiser doesn’t look like the one in the US. Lexus SUVs are the same, at least visually. On the other hand, Russians are still using diesel engines in high volume.  The new LX is not going to be an exception.

The company is also going to bring Lexus LX 500D. The letter at the end is a sign of a diesel unit. Also, the size matters in this part of the world, and the new model could get a 5.0- displacement. Currently, a twin-turbo V8 is producing 480 lb-ft of torque and 270 horsepower (650 Nm and 200 kW). The new unit is definitely upgrading these numbers.

Lexus LX 600 Release Date

At Toyota 4Runner Forum we found a schedule of new arrivals. Toyota plans to refresh its SUVs and trucks in the next three or four years, but the first models won’t be out until 2023 with the debut a year earlier. Among the first vehicles to be shown are Tundra Truck, 4Runner SUV, and premium twins – Land Cruiser and LX. Now, it makes the perfect sense and the company filed for the new nameplate, for the new generation at the right time.

However, there are a lot of speculations regarding the Lexus LX 600. All these theories have sense, but the last word is coming from Toyota.
