The Compass is one of the favorite crossovers in the world. However, sales in the US are rapidly dropping. Last year, Jeep sold 50 percent fewer units compared to the 2018 season. Well, the crossover is becoming old. Plus, the carmaker is yet to fix the major downside – the lack of a hybrid system. Rivals are already taking advantage of the new technology. So, to stay competitive, the 2024 Jeep Compass hybrid needs to debut.
Besides a new drivetrain, the crossover will bring fresh styling and possibly the new generation. We saw a big facelift in 2021, but that is just not enough. Kia is replacing Sportage every 5 seasons, and the current Compass debuted in 2016. The favorite version is Limited. It brings cool upgrades, but not high-end and expensive options like the High Altitude. Fans of the off-road drive will definitely look for the 2024 Jeep Compass Trailhawk.
Current Powertrain
Under the hood of the 2024 Jeep Compass is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 200 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. Previously, the crossover was using a popular Tigershark unit – a 2.4-liter engine with 177 hp. Engineers managed to get more power and improve gas mileage. The Compass now returns 27 mpg, which is a 10% boost compared to the previous configuration. Nevertheless, that is still not good for the compact crossover class. An eight-speed automatic transmission sends power to the wheels. The towing capacity of the crossover is 2,000 pounds.
Outside the US, we can find a few more different setups. For example, one of the most interesting is the one with a 1.3-liter turbo I3 engine. Also, in some markets, buyers can purchase the Compass with a 1.4-liter mill. Even diesel plants survive, but we don’t think that company will offer MultiJet motors once the new generation debuts.
Future System: 2024 Jeep Compass Hybrid
The company already combined a 1.3-liter turbocharged engine with a 45 kW battery. The Compass PHEV is available in Europe and creates 240 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque. That is enough for a 7.2-sec 0-60 mph sprint. Buyers in the US wonder why this configuration is not available at their dealerships. A six-speed automatic transmission distributes power to both axles. If you use only an electric battery, called eMotor, you can go 29 miles before the system runs out of power.
We expect a similar system in the United States. Plus, the 2024 Jeep Compass hybrid will bring a different setup that will maximize gas mileage. To catch up with the competition, the crossover needs to get very close to 40 mpg. This should be the top priority for the Stellantis group and the FCA alliance.
Release Date
The next 2024 Jeep Compass will be launched by the end of the year. But, everything depends on the level of changes the company is preparing for the compact crossover. This is the hottest class in the automotive world and sales prove it. Jeep dropped under 100k sold Compass units per annum, while leaders are above 300,000. So, some changes are required and we believe that the hybrid model gives the best chance to the vehicle to draw more attention. Buyers are looking for a practical ride, and what’s better than the high mileage?
Best Versions
Jeep always knew how to surprise us with different packages and special editions. That is something missing for the Compass. Everybody talks about the Trackhawk version of the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler with Rubicon upgrade, or the new Recon EV crossover SUV. The company also launched an all-electric Wagoneer. So, the 2024 Jeep Compass EV is also an option we need to think about. But, it can show up only as the concept, not the production vehicle.
Meanwhile, Jeep will probably keep all the trim levels available for the current crossover, even if the 2024 YM is entering the third generation. In the US, you can find Compass Sport as the base version. Latitude is a small upgrade, but the Lux package for the same grade adds a dose of luxury. Altitude is already a mid-range version, as well as the Limited. This trim brings the best price for the offer. Trailhawk is going to take you anywhere, no matter what are the terrain and weather conditions. High Altitude keeps the top-of-the-range spot, but in 2024, it will break $40,000 price limit.
2024 Jeep Compass Electric
After the debuts of two new EVs, we expect further upgrades. The first concept that was presented was Wrangler Magneto. But instead, the company launched the Jeep Recon. Also, there is the all-electric version of the full-size Wagoneer. So, we can think of the next moves and electrification of the compact crossover class. The 2024 Jeep Compass EV is not a bad idea, but it will take more time before production starts. Before that happens, Jeep could launch the Baby SUV, a replacement for the Renegade.
