The small luxury crossover is all-new, so there won’t be major changes on the 2024 BMW X1. Fans of the German brand expect to see an upgrade in the lineup, but with the X2 model. Meanwhile, the lineup for the X1 should be expanded to offer more options. For now, only the xDrive28i is available with and AWD. The BMW iX1 will also become available as an EV based on the standard vehicle. It is also important for European buyers since it shares the platform with the upcoming MINI Countryman EV. This model is not coming to the US, though.
Although small, the 2024 BMW X1 is going to offer a cozy interior, at least compared to the competition. As a premium vehicle, it also comes nicely packed with advanced technologies and upscale materials. The engine is pretty potent and owners praise the performance. The iX1 will go 160 miles in the base form, or up to 300 mi when you select a battery with a higher capacity. The base price of the X1 is a stumbling block for many fans. Plus, upgrading the crossover is also pretty expensive. At least, you will get an AWD.
2024 BMW X1 Specs
The crossover is small, but its drivetrain is pretty powerful. A 2.0-liter turbocharged engine can deliver 241 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque. For the subcompact class, this is more than enough. A seven-speed automatic DCT sends power to all wheels. Usually, BMW is offering small vehicles with a 2WD, which is not the case with the 2024 BMW X1. But, it might become an option. This move would make the crossover less expensive, fixing one of the biggest downsides.
A revisit of the engine room made the whole system more efficient. Not only that plant produces more power, but it is also consuming less fuel. The gas mileage is improved and the X1 now offers 25/35 mpg. Have in mind those are numbers for the AWD. Also, the crossover is accelerating 0-60 mph in just 6 seconds, which is one of the class-leading results.
All-Electric iX1 Crossover
The iX1 EV is not available in the US yet. But, it is not the first time that European carmakers introduce their products in their homelands, and then after a year, the sales in the United States start as well. We expect to see the 2024 BMW iX1. But, there are a few versions available in Europe, so it is still questionable which one is coming to US dealerships. The base model is using small battery that covers 160 miles. Definitely, this one is not competitive. In most cases, the range of the iX1 is 235-270 miles. That is something expected from such a vehicle. High-end performance configurations deliver more power and a range of 300+ miles. It can be the M model of the all-electric crossover. Other technical data is hard to guess since the US market is getting a specific offer, both for drivetrains and equipment.
Interesting, BMW passes on the hybrid and PHEV versions of the subcompact crossover. Those systems can improve gas mileage and give an extra boost to power outputs. But, the company can’t charge it too much. The 2024 BMW X1 will already be one of the most expensive options in the subcompact luxury crossover class.
Accessories and Equipment
Since there is only one trim level available for the crossover, the company stacked it with plenty of options. Well, it is not easy to sell such a small vehicle for $40,000. The first notable feature is the famous all-wheel drive system called xDrive. The 2024 BMW X1 is using only that one. A set of 18-inch wheels makes the subcompact crossover pretty attractive. The company also adds a power liftgate. A completely digital instrument panel will take your time to figure out all the options. But, once mastered, the system becomes a great help. The X1 also offers dual-zone climate control, a 10.7-inch screen with navigation and smartphone services.
Although there is no alternative trim levels, BMW makes some upgrades available to owners. For example, the Convenience package adds keyless entry, a panoramic sunroof and a wireless charging pad. The Premium bundle builds up from there with an interior camera, premium audio by Harman Kardon, and HUD. The xLine is one of the favorite upgrades that can increase the size of wheels to 19 or 20 inches. It will be easy to recognize thanks to unique interior and exterior details. However, the M Sport dominates when it comes to special and sporty add-ons. The ride gets a boost thanks to performance tires, aerodynamic bumpers, and adaptive suspension dampers. Prices of those packages range from $500 to $2,500. Well, the premium Frozen Pure Grey Metallic paintjob costs $2,350, and only two colors are free of charge.
