2023 Toyota Sequoia release date

2023 Toyota Sequoia (Redesign, Interior, Changes)

The 2023 Toyota Sequoia will be seriously redesigned. Well, the vehicle is ready for the new generation, but it is not going to happen until 2025. The full-time SUV is the biggest model in Toyota’s lineup. The company is updating it with every new edition. Recently, the TRD Pro version joined the lineup. It improved the presence in the off-road segment. The new 2023 Sequoia is about to bring even more excitement and novelties.

Fresh styling is definitely the first thing Toyota needs to consider. Sequoia is old. Well, this sort of tree is well-known for its durability and lifespan, but that is not a recipe for success in the automotive industry. The Japanese company needs to update the SUV and quickly. We believe in the redesign and the announcement that the new architecture is underpinning big rigs of the future is supporting the idea. That is not all, the TNGA-F platform will allow even more changes under the hood. A V8 is about to be replaced. The latest rumors are mentioning an all-electric Sequoia. This is not going to happen for the 2023 YM.

New Platform

This is a truck-based SUV. Sequoia is sharing the platform with Tundra truck. The pickup is being updated and the new architecture is going to underpin both vehicles. For a long time, Toyota is working on the new engine and such change required an architecture that can support the body and engine. The TNGA-F is the platform that will allow engineers to bring a new plant. Reports say a V8 is too big for the new concept. But, the Japanese company is preparing a turbocharged V6 as a replacement. Those are not new rumors, since the I-Force Max nameplate is in the process of registration. The new trademark will be obtained soon and we will see the powertrain on the upcoming Tundra. Meanwhile, the 2023 Toyota Sequoia will be a mechanical twin.

So, there are a few options for the big rig. We won’t exclude a 5.7-liter V8 yet, since the company didn’t confirm the new unit. Owners of Sequoia are happy with the existing plant and the major downside is the fuel economy. On the other hand, an eight-cylinder mill can produce 381 hp and 400 lb-ft. If you plan a tough off-road adventure, this engine is not letting you down. Durability and reliability are keys and the new powertrain has big shoes to fill.

New Engine

Instead of a V8, Toyota will deploy a V6. But, naturally-aspirated, it won’t be powerful enough for the 2023 Sequoia. So, a kind of turbocharged system will maximize the potential of the I-Force Max engine. Not only Sequoia, but also Tundra, Land Cruiser, and Lexus LX are going to use it. The premium SUV gives some hints since the Japanese company also filed for a new brand – LX600. Previously, the number in the alphanumeric nameplate was showing a displacement (LX570 was using a 5.7 engine). Now, the LX600 is not clearing out anything. Will there be a 6.0-liter engine? Or the total output can reach 600 horsepower. Some experts say a 3.4-liter unit from the Lexus LS would do the job. But still, fans would like to see a new engine, rather than the updated configuration from some of the existing models.

New Look (Spy Photos)

Every redesign brings a lot of updates. But, the fresh look of the vehicle is there to draw attention. Of course, you will always want to know what lays under the hood, or what kind of platform the vehicle is using. It is about time for Sequoia to be redesigned. It is time for a while. The current generation is quite old and revisits didn’t help in changing the overall impression. The redesign will do it.

Since the 2023 Toyota Sequoia is going to be an all-new SUV, the expectations are very high. We still can’t compare it to other models and design languages, although the Japanese company introduced some cool solutions on the new Highlander. Its larger sibling is going to be bold and modern. Versatility is the key. The SUV is going to offer seven or eight seating spots. Two rear rows will be foldable, eventually providing more room for cargo if needed. Towing capacity will depend on the new engine. Expect Sequoia above 8,000 pounds in any case. All in all, it will be worth waiting for the 2023 YM, instead of buying 2021 or 2022 Sequoia.

Release Date and Price

The new engine will control a lot of things about the upcoming SUV. The development goes well, according to our sources. So, the release date is planned for the second half of 2022. Again, the engine and its specs will be the key when it comes to the valuation of the 2023 Toyota Sequoia. Don’t expect a bargain. The base MSRP for this SUV will start somewhere between $55,000 and $60,000.
