2023 Tesla Model X: What’s New?

549 0

One of the oldest EVs in the market is always bringing an update or two. The current version came out without any significant changes, after the Plaid and Long Range packages were added. The 2023 Tesla Model X redesign is possible, although Elon Musk would rather deliver a new vehicle. But, it is not so simple. The company owes a lot to the Model X. Thanks to the SUV, the US company made a breakthrough in the automotive industry and positioned itself at the top of the electric segment. Although Tesla is always looking for new technologies and concepts, it would be hard to drop the pioneer, the Model X.

Even without changes, the SUV will still be ahead of the competition. Its major downside is a hefty price. But everything else is the state of art. More than five years later, other carmakers are still catching up. The 2023 Tesla Model X could set new standards and blow the competition away (once again). Unchanged, the SUV will face new rivals, since more companies are starting the production of electric vehicles. Ford Mach E and Hummer SUV are already on the way. There are also startup projects that drew a lot of attention, but still won’t be in production.

Specs Through History

Let’s go through the lineup of engines through history. The first Model X was available in three configurations – 75D, 90D and P100D. Numbers are showing the power of the battery. The entry-level version was good for 330 hp and 237 miles of range. The Model X 90D could cover 257 miles and the performances were better with 417 hp and 485 lb-ft of torque. At the top of the range, there was the P100D with 532 hp, 715 lb-ft, and 289 miles of range. Standard 100D was added a year later to increase the mileage to 295 miles. The 90D was dropped soon.

For the 2019 YM, the company updated batteries. The entry-level configuration started using a 100-kWh motor that was good for the 250-mile ride. The mid-range version was the Model X Long Range with 325 miles. The Performance package could travel 20 miles shorter, but the max speed and 0-60 mph times were way better. The last update was in 2021 when Tesla introduced new packages. The Long Range is there with 670 hp and 360 miles of range, while the Model X Plaid raised the bar to 1,020 horsepower. The range depends on the size of the wheels. With 20-inch rims you can cover 340 miles, while the set of 22-inchers drops the distance to 300 miles.

2023 Tesla Model X Range

It seems like the company is not willing to invest in new versions of the 2023 Tesla Model X, with the priorities set for other projects. Tesla recently added Cybertruck and Model Y, and the next vehicle to join the lineup should be an electric roadster. That means the base version is going to be the Long Range model with a pair of AC batteries good for 670 horsepower. The range is 360 miles. There are two key moments owners of previous versions need to know. Model X is not covered with federal credit. Also, the Supercharger use is not free anymore. The Plaid model comes with more than 1,000 hp thanks to a three-motor setup. Total range drops, but the SUV achieves an astonishing 163 mph of max speed.

Pros and Cons

The 2023 Tesla Model X will still be an undisputed champion of the electric segment. No other vehicle can offer similar numbers to this SUV. The range is 360 miles, more than many compact vehicles, and the Model X is a seven-seater! The ride quality and dynamics are incredible. With special upgrades, owners can tune the EV to hit 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds, faster than any other performance or exotic SUV. On the other hand, those addons will make the Model X very expensive, and the price is already hefty for the entry-level version. You can find a lot of other solutions and save. But, this one offers something no other SUV can, a new challenge and experience.

2023 Tesla Model X Release Date and Prices

When the electric SUV appeared in 2016, its price was the stumbling block to most potential buyers. Tesla is not backing off. The flagship model was never cheaper than $80,000 and the new versions top $100k. The 2023 Tesla Model X Plaid will be over $122,000. If you are looking for a more affordable electric SUV, then the Model Y should be a way better choice. But, don’t expect big savings and the same features the Model X is offering. Ford Mach E and Cadillac Lyriq are other interesting EVs, whose production is about to start by the end of 2022.
