2023 Subaru Outback Changes: Hybrid Engine

1132 0

The 2023 Subaru Outback is coming unchanged. The company launched the current generation last year, and for the 2022 edition, a new trim level joined the lineup. The Outback Wilderness is a high-end option for years to come. The rare change fans could see on the upcoming SUV is a hybrid engine. Subie is trying to keep pace with the competition and this is the direction of the entire automotive industry. Expect a revisit of the color palette.

The SUV is very practical. But, the main reason you will buy the 2023 Subaru Outback is the famous 4WD system in the combination with the Boxer engine. The low center of gravitation brings a whole new driving experience. When you decide to update your ride, Subie is one of the best in the market with high resale value. Plus, the 2023 Subaru Outback will offer plenty of safety systems right from the base model.

There are no too many downsides. The company will try to fix the start/stop system, which was more annoying than helpful. The base engine is not going to impress, but there is a turbocharged unit to make it up. The company is not offering high-end luxury variants, although Wilderness has improved the overall impression.

Engines and Specs

A base model of the 2023 Subaru Outback is going to be powered by a 2.5-liter flat-four engine, popular Boxer. This configuration has a very low center of gravity, which leads to more impressive handling and maneuvering than on the inline-four powerplants. All-wheel drive is standard, but we know this is a trademark of the Japanese carmaker. For the size of this model, this is not enough. The manufacturer makes it up a bit with AWD and quite a good gas mileage – 26/33 mpg.

More buyers are opting for the 2.4-liter turbo-four, again Boxer. Turbochargers help the system squeeze 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque from this powertrain. A CVT transmission sends power to all wheels. A more potent engine consumes more fuel – 23/30 mpg. The new Wilderness edition is even less fuel-friendly.

2023 Subaru Outback Hybrid

The company never confirmed the 2023 Subaru Outback hybrid. But, this is something competition and fans are expecting. The only hybrid system available with the Subie badge is Crosstrek. Knowing every model has a similar configuration under the hood, the 2023 Outback hybrid could deploy something based on the same setup. As said, a larger SUV needs more power. Crosstrek is way smaller and 150 horsepower meets the demands of its drivers.

2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness and Other Models

For now, we are sure the 2023 Outback is going to offer at least five trim levels. The base model is available with the X-Drive AWD. LED headlights are responsive to steering. EyeSight safety package is included. The SUV is a good option for an off-road drive thanks to massive ground clearance. The Premium model is upgrading the base version with the Starlink bundle that improves safety and technology. One of the highlights is an 11-inch touchscreen display. LED fog lights are also available.

The Limited edition adds a touch of luxury with leather seats, Harman Kardon audio, and a hands-free power tailgate. Larger wheels make the Limited model recognizable. Outback Touring used to be the top of the range version with navigation, power moonroof, heated and ventilated seats. Now, Onyx Edition XT is not as impressive when it comes to features. But, the main upgrade is under the hood with a turbo-four engine delivering 260 hp. The 2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness is based on the Premium model and adds systems that will make the off-road drive more impressive. Those are, for example, increased ground clearance to 9.5 inches, all-terrain tires wrapping 17-inch wheels, extended lower cladding, and special water-resistant upholstery.

2023 Subaru Outback Colors

The base model of the 2023 Subaru Outback will be painted in white. However, you can select Magnetite Gray, Ice Silver, Crystal Black, Brilliant Bronze, or Abyss Blue. The black cloth interior is standard. Upper trim levels are going to offer more paintjobs. For example, on the Premium version, there are two more exterior shades – Crimson Red and Autumn Green. Warm Ivory becomes an alternative to the black interior scheme. Cinnamon Brown is available if you pick Outback Limited. The leather upholstery inside the cockpit is black. Grey and Warm Ivory are other options, depending on the exterior color. Touring cuts some shades, but the interior is bringing a unique brown leather theme. StarTex material is there for Onyx and Wilderness trims.

Prices

The price of the SUV stays put. The MSRP starts from $27,000. Compared to other similar vehicles, it seems to be a bit higher. But, have in mind the Subie is using AWD as the standard feature. The Premium version is going to cost just above $29,000 and Limited adds $4,000 in features. Touring is a luxury package with a price tag of $38,000 with a weaker engine. A turbo-four is a $2,500 upgrade for Limited and Touring packages. Wilderness is going to cost $37,000.
