The all-new Pathfinder is very exciting SUV. One of the key updates, the styling, went well. Fans are very happy with a bolder look. On the other hand, the drivetrain remained the same. There are no alternatives to the 3.5-l V6. At least not at the moment. The upcoming 2023 Nissan Pathfinder could get a turbo-four or a hybrid configuration. Still, there are no confirmations about the additional drivetrain, yet.
Fans are thrilled with the new version of the SUV. Nissan did it again, although we had to wait a bit longer than usual. The look is mean and aggressive. Color options are nice. The old engine couldn’t be called a downside. But, the lack of alternatives is definitely something no one likes. The Pathfinder was always one of the most reliable SUVs in the market. That is why we were waiting for so long for the update. A 3.5-liter is a durable unit with a lot of power to deliver a smooth ride. One of the downsides was its sluggish CVT transmission. Now, it is fixed, with a nine-speed case. Engineers tuned the system to produce 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. What is more important, a three-row SUV can haul 6,000 pounds. This is one of the best results in the mid-size segment, where most models keep the towing capacity at 5k. The gas mileage is not impressive. With the front-wheel drive setup, the SUV returns 21/26 mpg, or 1 point down if you opt for an AWD.
New Options for the 2023 Nissan Pathfinder
Definitely, the 2023 Pathfinder will need reinforcement. Or two. The first additional configuration coming to our mind is a hybrid. Nissan used to produce the Pathfinder with electric support, but it didn’t last for too long. Now, with other companies improving performance with hybrid systems, the Japanese carmaker will have to respond. For example, Toyota Highlander can return 35 mpg, which is impressive even for smaller crossovers. Besides the hybrid, the 2023 Nissan Pathfinder could get a smaller displacement, boosted by turbochargers. This is another modern trend in the industry nowadays.
Packages
The company kept the trim levels we knew from before. The offer starts with the S model. Highlights of the base package are 18-inch wheels, an 8-inch screen, LED headlights, and zonal climate control. Besides that, the SUV is pretty safe, where the list of features is long. For example, you will get blind-spot monitoring, forward collision mitigation, and lane departure alert.
The Highlander SV adds leather steering wheels, heated front seats and mirrors, and you can start the SUV remotely. Adaptive cruise control is also an important upgrade. The Premium package is an optional bundle and contains a panoramic sunroof, a power liftgate, and a two-seat middle row.
The 2023 Nissan Pathfinder SL can be considered as the premium option. Power liftgate, leather seats, a larger touchscreen, more USB ports, and a few other features will make you feel the best impression of the new model. Premium package is also available for the SL, with a panoramic roof, 20-inch wheels, heated rear seats, and Bose audio.
Platinum keeps the spot at the top of the lineup. Premium leather covers seats, ambient lighting is added, as well as hands-free liftgate. We’ll see if this model can fulfill Nissan’s promise of the Level 4 autonomous drive.
2023 Nissan Pathfinder Pro-4X
One thing is missing on this list. That is the off-road oriented package. The company already has a special trim level and the 2023 Nissan Pathfinder Pro-4X could join the lineup. Competition is tough there. Toyota 4Runner and Jeep Wrangler are dominating the market. It will be hard to keep up with TRD Pro and Trailhawk, but the 4×4 package is always a nice addition. Besides the four-wheel drive, the ride should be increased and the suspension replaced. Of course, all-terrain tires and underbody protection are required.

While we are waiting for the updates, let’s check the prices of the 2023 Nissan Pathfinder. The base model is available for less than $35,000. The SV adds nearly $5,000, while you need to invest $3,500 for the SL. Platinum starts at $50,000 and that is where we expect the off-road oriented version, no matter if it is going to be Pro-4X or some other. Around $40,000 is the expected cost of the Pathfinder Hybrid.
