You can’t be wrong with the 2023 Mercedes GLE. The German luxury SUV is a bit more expensive than the competition but brings a lot more. On the other hand, fans of the tri-point star manufacturer know they must spend a fortune to get a larger GLS, while the smaller GLC is not meeting demands regarding power and size.
The GLE is a three-row model by default. Nevertheless, you can cut two seats from the back and create more room for passengers and cargo. Under the hood is a mighty six-cylinder unit. You can go after a larger displacement but expect a huge price bump. A high-end version is the 2023 Mercedes GLE AMG 63.
The SUV offers plenty of options. Elegance is the strongest side, but also powerful engines. Hi-tech features make a ride more convenient. On the other hand, the third row is not too comfortable, the price is not so affordable, and you can’t get great fuel economy numbers, especially if you are after a V8 engine and AMG performance packages.
2023 Mercedes GLE Specs
There are five different engines available for the 2023 Mercedes GLE. Surprisingly, the base version is using a turbo-four and no 4WD by default. A 2.0-liter mill can produce 255 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque, which is not enough for the mid-size SUV. That is why the price of this setup starts under $55,000. A six-pot plant is what we got used to when it comes to this class. A 3.0-liter displacement is ready to deliver 360 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque, making the SUV accelerate 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds. Finally, there is a V8 drivetrain. GLE 580 models equipped with a 4.0-liter mill are creating 485 ponies and 515 pound-feet of twisting power.

A four-cylinder engine returns 19/26 mpg, while an I6 is consuming slightly more fuel on the highway. A V8 is thirstier, returning 18/22 mpg, which is not a bad result.

The 2023 Mercedes GLE AMG 53 exploits a 3.0-liter I6. Turbocharged, the engine is good for 430 horsepower and 385 lb-ft. A nine-speed auto is a power router again and sends energy to both axles. The AMG packages allow you to switch to the RWD if needed.
The 2023 Mercedes GLE AMG 63 can provide even more power. With 603 horsepower coming from the handcrafted 4.0-liter biturbo V8, it is one of the most potent SUVs in the US market. Plus, the engine creates 627 lb-ft, which is good for 0-60 acceleration in just 3.6 seconds. The same gearbox and 4Matic+ system are available, as for the AMG GLE 53 model. The gas mileage drops to 17 mpg combined.
The entry-level model is going to be the 2023 Mercedes GLE 350. Besides a 2.0-liter engine, there are plenty of features available, making this configuration acceptable to must buyers. LED lights are standard. A set of 19-inch wheels makes the overall appearance pretty aggressive. The GLE 350, and all other packages come with power-adjustable seats, sunroof, and a power liftgate. That is why the SUV belongs to the luxury class. The MBUX infotainment is one of the most advanced systems in the market. The centerpiece of the package is a 12-inch screen, while the driver’s panel is also 12-inch wide. Navigation, blind-spot monitors, and smartphone integration services are also there right from the start.
The GLE 450 replaces a smaller engine block with a turbo-six unit. Wireless charger and ambient lighting are other notable upgrades you are getting for around $7,000. The 2023 Mercedes GLE 580 boosts the performance with a V8. Adaptive air suspension will allow you to increase or decrease the ride height. Larger wheels will make this one more appealing.

Active headlights and special wheels are the highlights of the exterior. The Interior is sportier. The 2023 Mercedes AMG GLE 63 is going to enhance the performance and the styling. Besides the 603-hp engine, there are also traction-enhancing electronic limited-slip differential and unique AMG seats.
