Our sources were right and we wrote about the comeback long before anyone else had a clue about it. Well, we couldn’t know everything before the official statement by the FCA. Now, experts can analyze the 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and first impressions.

We knew that the SUV is going to be big. Expectations became true, but the Grand Wagoneer is not a long-wheelbase version of the regular Wagoneer. Instead, the company decided to put more luxury on this version and make it a premium SUV. So now, the 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is going to rival Lexus LX, Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade, Infiniti QX80. You can find a review of all full-size luxury SUVs HERE.

So, everything on the 2023 Grand Wagoneer is better compared to its sibling. Of course, engineers decided to go with a large 6.4-liter engine. Still, we expect further upgrades, having in mind a supercharged Hellcat engine. Nevertheless, our sources say that bosses are not so keen on such a setup yet.

First Impressions

After a lot of delays, the Grand Wagoneer came back as the 2022 YM. Although fans expected the return, they didn’t know what form it would take. Most experts suggested that the full-size segment has an open slot and they were right. Wagoneer took it, while the Grand Wagoneer took another step and became a luxury SUV. We didn’t see this coming, especially having in mind that Jeep is not competing with other premium brands in the SUV market.

The first impressions are here. Since the 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is 215 inches long, with a 123-in wheelbase, there is plenty of space inside the cabin. Three rows offer eight seat total. You can reduce the seating capacity to seven by taking the captain’s buckets in the middle row. The interior is far away from everything we saw from any other Jeep. Well, the price is the best indicator. The company didn’t save on features and materials. Although so big and heavy, the SUV performs great thanks to the mighty V8 engine.

That might also lead us to the downside – the fuel economy. If you are looking for savings, the Grand Wagoneer is not the best option, also having in mind its high starting cost. Also, FCA should add another drivetrain option, possibly diesel or the PHEV.

2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Engine and PHEV

For now, the only source of power is a 6.4-lite V8 with 471 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. This is among the most powerful units FCA has to offer and the outputs suit nicely this class. Just for the comparison, it is more than Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator can do. One of the main advantages of the 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer will be the new suspension, called Quadra-Lift. Rear-wheel drive is standard and 4WD optional. Gas mileage is far away from impressive. An eight-speed transmission sends power to wheels. The towing capacity of the Grand Wagoneer is 10,000 pounds, which ranks it #1 in the class. It is more than Ford Expedition can do with 9,300 pounds.

This V8 is a great option, but the SUV needs something else to offer to buyers looking for choices. For example, a diesel unit might be there for the 2023 YM. Still, a 3.0-liter can’t provide enough power, and the Cummins plant is huge for such an SUV. The Hellcat can raise the bar to a new level. We got info that a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 is not joining the lineup in the foreseeable future. The best odds are on the PHEV system. Wrangler 4xe is already here. But, the system is centered around a four-cylinder unit. The 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 4xe PHEV would need at least a V6.

Options and Prices

The initial version of the 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer brought new packages. We got used to seeing the same names across the lineup, but no other model is using Series I-III and Obsidian trim levels. The base one is the Jeep Grand Wagoneer Series I with a price tag of just under $90,000. The highlight of the interior is definitely the Uconnect 5 infotainment. We’ve been waiting for it for the last two seasons and it didn’t disappoint. A 12-inch screen and 12.3-inch gauge cluster are eye-catching. The premium SUV comes with an advanced sound system by McIntosh.

If you pay $7,000 more, you can upgrade the ride to the Series II model. Here, you are getting 22-inch wheels instead of 20-inchers, Palermo leather instead of Nappa. More packages become optional, such as HD Towing, Rear-Seat Entertainment, or Convenience bundle. The 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Obsidian exceeds a price of $100,000. Here you’ll find darkened themes, outside and inside. Also, the 4×4 is standard. Passengers will also get their own touchscreen display. One of the recommended upgrades is the 23-speaker McIntosh audio. The Grand Wagoneer Series III sits above all other trim levels. The unique interior theme is Tupelo/Black. Rear-seat monitoring camera and a few other extras are making the price go up to $106,000.
