2023 Genesis GV70 Review: EV Launch and Pricing

410 0

The all-new product from Hyundai laboratories is out. The 2023 Genesis GV70 is a compact luxury crossover. It takes the position under the GV80, a mid-size SUV. The crossover uses a V6 engine in high-end configurations, which makes it competitive with German premium models. The base version comes with a turbo-four drivetrain. In the future, we can hear rumors that an all-electric GV70 is coming.

The first impressions about the crossover say we can count on a roomy interior and a lot of comfort inside the cabin. The 2023 Genesis GV70 is not going to change good things. The vehicle also rides nicely. One of the strongest sides is the price. You are getting the GV70 much cheaper than many other luxury crossovers. We can only mention small details as the downside. For example, there could be more storage compartments inside the cabin. Some functions can also be simplified. The biggest question is the resale value, but it will be answered after a few years.

2023 Genesis GV70 Packages

There are two engines available for the 2023 Genesis GV70. Three trim levels are ready for both of them. The base model is the 2.5T and it comes with 18-inch wheels, a hands-free liftgate, LED headlights, a 14.5-inch infotainment display, and wireless charging pad. There are many other features available as well. Drivers are also getting help from aid accessories.

The mid-range offer is the Select trim. It upgrades the entry-level bundle with options such as leather seats, ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, parking sensors, and a blind-spot monitor. The Sport Prestige is the top trim level for a 2.5-l engine. Highlights of this model are large 21-inch wheels, ergonomic driver’s bucket, Digital Key app, and advanced driver aid options with adaptive cruise control and evasive steering.

If you choose a 3.5-liter engine, then another three trims become available. With this powerplant, the base package includes the same equipment from the 2.5T Select. Sport Advanced bundle picks more features from the 2.5T Prestige, such as Digital Key app, leather upholstery, and faux leather door panels. The sound system is one of the best in the industry thanks to the Lexicon and 16-speaker configuration. The 2023 Genesis GV70 Sport Prestige and 3.5 engine are the top of the line combo. Besides a more potent engine, the luxury crossover also adds large wheels, a heated second row, ventilated front row of seats, HUD, 3-zone climate control, and improved graphics on a larger driver’s screen.

Specifications: 2.5T and 3.5T

Under the hood of the compact crossover is a very potent four-banger. A 2.5-liter turbo engine can produce 300 horsepower. It seems a bit too much for the small SUV. But, since it is a luxury vehicle, everything is on a higher level, including performances. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard and sends power to all wheels by default. The gas mileage is 22/28 mpg. The Sport package consumes more fuel.

An alternative is a more potent 3.5-liter turbocharged V6. The 2023 Genesis GV70 can produce 375 horsepower and 390 lb-ft. It is enough to be competitive with many high-end options from other carmakers. Again, an AWD is standard and the system returns 19/25 mpg. The maximum towing capacity of the crossover is 3,500 pounds.

The company launched an electric version of the GV70, but it was not available in the US for the 2022 season. The 2023 Genesis GV70 EV is certain. The styling is pretty much the same as for the conventional vehicle. Of course, there are some modifications to make the appearance bolder and more eye-catching. A 77.4 kWh battery is the main source of power. The total output is around 430 hp and the crossover can go up to 250 miles between recharges. Speed charging restores 80 percent of the battery in 25 minutes.

Before the company releases an all-electric version, buyers in the US could see the 2023 Genesis GV70 Hybrid. In this case, an engine with internal combustion remains the main powerplant. Electric motors will be there to enhance outputs and the mileage. However, the ultimate goal is to expand the EV lineup.

2023 Genesis GV70 Prices

The 2023 Genesis GV70 is not as expensive as some rivals. Still, this is a premium vehicle, so you cannot expect a bargain and the price at the same level as Hyundai Tucson. Genesis is the new brand and the luxury branch of the Korean company. One of the ways to make a quick breakthrough in the market is to slap an attractive price tag on its vehicles. That is why the GV70 costs ‘only’ $41,000. If you decide to upgrade the drivetrains, the pricing starts at $53,000 and gains another $10,000 via upper trim levels and optional upgrades. This is slightly less expensive than the BMW X3 M, for example. However, the German premium crossover is delivering 100 horsepower more than the GV70 3.5T version.
