Expedition is still the largest SUV in the lineup. The ladder frame delivers an extended lifespan, and that is one of the key reasons why buyers love this model. The fourth generation of the vehicle is going through a mid-cycle refresh, and the facelift is certain for the 2023 Ford Expedition. We expect the same for the Expedition Max. New colors will join the paintjob palette. The redesign of the interior will be the most interesting. The lineup of trim levels is also about to suffer some changes. King Ranch and Limited model are high-end options worth investment.
The 2023 Ford Expedition hybrid is also in the mix. This big rig is using only a turbocharged V6. It might seem strange, but the SUV returns enough power to compete against V8-powered models. Hybrid drivetrains are taking over the market and it was questionable if such configurations can deliver satisfying performance for full-size SUVs. But now, more three-row vehicles are using PHEV and hybrids, so, it is just a matter of time when those are going to become available in a higher class. The diesel engine is already there and fans are asking about the availability of a 7.3-liter Godzilla V8.
2023 Ford Expedition Release Date
It is early to talk about the final look of the 2023 Ford Expedition. But, if one thing is predictable, that is the release date. The SUV is ready for a redesign, which will be one of the biggest things for the US company next season. That means the carmaker will choose a big auto show to present changes on the 2023 Expedition. Detroit will host the best vehicles and major updates in the summer of 2021, which should be the perfect occasion for the SUV to show up. The price is going up, but Ford doesn’t have too much room for a big jump. The base version will still be under $55,000.
2023 Ford Expedition Redesign, Interior, Colors
The latest generation of the big rig dates from 2018 and we can say it is still fresh. Meanwhile, the company updated the F-Series truck lineup. Some of the solutions we saw on the pickup could be implemented for the upcoming 2023 Ford Expedition redesign. No big changes are expected, regarding the size and interior space. The SUV will still be 210 inches long. If you need more space, the Expedition Max is there with the LWB configuration.
The interior is going to suffer more changes. An update should make the SUV more comfortable, convenient and safe. Ford is not giving up on the eight-seat layout. Upper trim levels will offer chairs in the middle row, cutting down the seating capacity to seven spots. The infotainment system needs an update to keep up with class-leading packages.
Colors seem to be the easiest way to refresh the vehicle. Still, designers will keep up with most of the current options which include more than 10 paintjobs. Star White and Burgundy Velvet are premium colors, and we expect another one in this squad. Buyers will have five or six different paintjobs selections for free.
2023 Ford Expedition Powertrains Update: V8 and Hybrid
A V6 with 400 hp stays under the bonnet of the full-size SUV. Another option will be a 3.0-liter diesel with 450 lb-ft of torque. The 2023 Ford Expedition Hybrid is the next one to debut. But, we still don’t have clues about what does this configuration is going to use. An electric battery could be attached to a six-cylinder unit, but the power output is questionable. On the other hand, there are no current V8 hybrids that we can use as the example for the Expedition. A V8 is also an option, but many experts believe this unit is going to power the Excursion SUV, based on F-250. The Super Duty truck is already using this powertrain and it would be a perfect match for the largest SUV ever.
Trim Levels Lineup
It is hard to select the best package for the big rig with so many options. On the other hand, there is still a lot of room for improvement. The redesign will shake up things and reshuffle features across the lineup. Still, high-end models, such as King Ranch and Limited. XL and XLT are entry-level packages whose features list is long and can satisfy the needs of most drivers. However, you are not getting too many advanced options.
That is why many fans invest a bit more for the mid-range packages. The 2023 Ford Expedition Limited upgrades the XLT with premium sound and larger wheels. Leather seats are standard. The 2023 Expedition King Ranch will require a serious investment, probably more than $20,000 above the base price. But, it brings a lot of premium options, especially for the infotainment system. The most expensive model will still be Platinum. The SUV needs a special off-road trim since the FX4 package is not a true rival to GMC Yukon AT4 and Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro. The Expedition Max extends the body, providing more room for passengers in the rear row, and space for storage behind it.
