2023 Chevy Traverse Full Review: All-New Three-Row SUV

833 0

The 2023 Chevy Traverse is an updated version of the mid-size SUV. The company wants to position its vehicle as better as possible. But, it is not so easy with the huge competition in the three-row segment. The class is growing every season. Still, the Traverse is one of the most popular models and the SUV other carmakers need to catch up with. Other releases by General Motors are not going to affect sales of the flagship model. Still, fans will definitely turn their attention to Blazer, or the upcoming GMC Hummer electric SUV.

The redesign introduced new front and rear fascias, which is enough to make an eye-catching effect. But, we are disappointed with the lack of updates under the hood. The 2023 Chevrolet Traverse features a powerful and reliable V6, but it doesn’t offer the alternative. A hybrid is a must nowadays. Also, the company could make the build more interesting with another choice. A turbo-four is probably the first thing coming to your mind, but even a V8 wouldn’t be such a surprise. Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango are SUVs of a similar size with eight-cylinder engines in the lineup.

All in all, the 2023 Chevy Traverse is not bringing any key change. Minor updates are possible, but the company will be focused on other projects before they make another move on the mid-size three-row vehicle.

Why Buy 2023 Chevy Traverse?

The SUV is one of the most reliable units in the market. You can experiment with other vehicles, but buyers know what they are getting from the 2023 Chevy Traverse. Now, with the fresh styling and updated interior, it seems even better. Nevertheless, not everything is perfect about the Traverse. We already mentioned it lacks other engine options, hybrid in the first place. A reliable V6 can’t cover it all. But, if you want a 3.6-liter displacement, then no other units are needed.

The SUV is packed with plenty of features. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. The interior is spacious and can take up to seven passengers. If there are no other options under the hood, GM makes it up with plenty of trim levels and additional packages. The Z71 is rumored to become one of the best configurations, and the Redline Edition is also available as an upgrade to some trims.

Features and Options

The base offer for the 2023 Chevy Traverse stays the same. That means five trim levels. But, that is not all, since the GM is also about to deliver attractive optional packages for some of those models. The entry-level SUV is the LS. After the redesign, it will be available with 18-inch wheels, LED lamps, cloth interior, a tri-zone climate, and a 7-inch touchscreen. The LT is available with cloth or leather upholstery, so some consider them as two trim levels. On the official website, those two trims are offered individually. There are some differences, though. With the cloth interior, you are getting foglights, roof rails, power seats, while the leather buckets also bring heating, a larger screen, a driver’s display, and a power liftgate.

The 2023 Chevy Traverse RS is a sporty package with unique wheels and black accents. The Premier model adds luxury features, such as a hands-free liftgate, ventilated front seats, or memory settings for the driver’s bucket. The High Country brings the best Chevy is offering. This model is the right choice for drivers looking for a higher dose of luxury.

Specs

A 3.6-liter V6 is the only drivetrain for the 2023 Chevy Traverse for now, and it will probably stay so. A hybrid plant is not a likely option any longer, although the SUV can be more competitive with such a configuration. Main rivals are already hybridized. But, General Motors is more focused on the all-electric drivetrain. Still, they won’t give up one of the most recognizable models in the market.

So, a V6 is good for 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. The SUV is going to tow 5,000 pounds max, which is something we expect from such a vehicle. The start/stop system will save some fuel and improve poor gas mileage. The SUV returns only 18 mpg in the city with front-wheel drive. Combined, the fuel economy is at 22 mpg, or 21 if you choose to use AWD. A nine-speed automatic transmission is the transfer case, and High Country adds a dual-clutch system. You can switch off the start/stop feature when it becomes annoying.

2023 Chevy Traverse Prices

Besides the styling, General Motors also updated the prices of the new Traverse. Now, the SUV costs at least $35,000. The LT adds $2,500 and it will cost you more than $3,000 to turn the cloth into the leather (with all other upgrades). The RS model is the best-looking, but also puts a lot of value on such additions. Premier is the premium option, with a starting price above $50,000. At this level, we can find some luxury SUVs. The 2023 Chevy Traverse High Country is the most expensive package.
