General Motors is thinking of the discontinuation of small crossovers. So, it might be the last chance to get your 2023 Buick Encore. The same goes for the Chevy Trax. The subcompact segment is not quite popular. Plus, the company wants to make more room for the electric Bolt. Well, this might be the end of the 10-year run of the Encore. Although, sales were not so bad. In the past couple of seasons, those numbers declined, but as for every other vehicle due to the pandemic. Before it all started, Encore had more than 100k buyers in 2019.
Anyway, after so many years, it is time for big changes. As an opposite to the discontinuation, fans believe the new generation of the subcompact crossover might hit the market. It also has sense. General Motors updated many of its vehicles in the past two years. Some debuts had to wait, again because of the COVID pandemic. Still, General Motors is all into the electrification process. Experts think Hummer EUT, Bolt EV, electric Silverado and Cadillac Lyriq are higher priorities than the 2023 Buick Encore.
Future After the 2023 Buick Encore
The 2023 Buick Encore will be out, probably unchanged. If the carmaker wanted to launch a new generation, you would know something about it by now. There are no rumors about the all-new Chevy Trax, a mechanical twin of the Encore. Also, our sources are not confirming those vehicles will be cut from the lineup. So, it seems that the decision is left for the upcoming season, with the focus on the new arrivals. The 2024 YM will be either all-new, or there won’t be a model for that season.
Specs and Performance
As the subcompact vehicle, we can’t expect stunning numbers from the 2023 Buick Encore. Even the gas mileage is modest, compared to some hybridized compact crossovers. Toyota Rav4, Honda CR-V and Ford Escape are already over 40 mpg. The Encore can do 24 in the city, with the front-wheel drive, which looks very poor. On highways, the crossover makes it up with 32 mpg, mostly thanks to the sluggish performance.
A 1.4-liter turbocharged engine is new. It produces 155 hp and 177 lb-ft, like for the Chevy Trax. All-wheel drive makes the system even thirstier. The good thing is that GM is following trends. Small crossovers were much weaker in the past, and you can still find some units with 130-140 horsepower. But, that is just not enough to make us happy with the performance of the 2023 Buick Encore. One of the good things is the agility, but it is so thanks to the compact dimensions.
Trim Levels and Accessories
There was only one package available for the current Encore. It says a lot about the position of the vehicle in the lineup and the market. If there was high demand, more trim levels would be available. However, it is strange to see the 2023 Buick Encore without further choices. Yes, there are optional single upgrades, but the crossover is missing complete packages ready for purchase.
The Preferred bundle highlights are 18-inch wheels, halo lights, and keyless entry. The infotainment system is updated, and we expect an 8-inch touchscreen at the central console. Besides that, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto services are standard, as well as a six-speaker sound system.
The safety package is an optional upgrade and it comes with a blind-spot monitor. Also, a power outlet is included. The second level of the Safety bundle adds forward collision warning, lane departure alert and parking sensors. Individual options are a moonroof and a remote start.
2023 Buick Encore Pricing
Before the company decides on the future of the crossover, the 2023 Buick Encore will be out at the same price as before. The MSRP is $25,800. All-wheel drive costs only $600. The standard color is Summit White, and all others are ‘premium’, at least according to the company that charges some other paintjob $500. Single upgrades are available for interior and exterior. So, loaded with premium options, the new Encore could cost more than $28,000.
Nevertheless, the vehicle is going to need some kind of minor refresh for the upcoming season. Looking at the same crossover is boring. So, fresh colors, additional equipment, or a trim level could be interesting to buyers, especially with the subcompact crossover market being calm in 2023.
