The subcompact crossover, the 2023 BMW X2, is coming without changes. The small SUV is a rival to Audi Q5, Range Rover Evoque, Volvo XC40, or Lexus UX. There are two versions of the vehicle available, 28i and M35i. Front-wheel drive is standard, and AWD optional. A 2.0-liter I-4 engine is standard all across the lineup.
The X2 will look and drive as we expect from a BMW. However, the attractive styling takes advantage of the aerodynamic and practicality. Surprisingly, the Android Auto was not available, but the 2023 BMW X2 could implement this service. There are no big downsides, but the major one is the price. Well, there are not too many buyers willing to pay $37,000 for a small crossover. And that is the starting MSRP of the X2.
On the other hand, high-end models are equipped with some top-notch technology. Well, the M35i is a step ahead over the competition, especially with 300 hp and Harman Kardon audio.
Specs
Under the hood of the tiny SUV is not so small engine. A 2.0-liter inline-four delivers 228 horsepower thanks to the turbocharging system. We see the same configuration available for a larger X3. The 2023 BMW X2 also produces 258 lb-ft of torque. The sDrive28i uses two-wheel drive. Don’t worry, the xDrive is also available. The gas mileage is 27 mpg combined, which is not a bad output having in mind power outputs. On the other hand, not so great for a subcompact crossover.
The 2023 BMW X2 M35i comes with a four-wheel xDrive by default. The same powertrain is under the bonnet. But, in this case, a 2.0-liter unit delivers 300 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque. Of course, better performance is guaranteed, as well as the price which exceeds all the expectations from a vehicle of this class. Premium gas makes everything work better. An eight-speed automatic transmission is the power router for both configurations.
In Europe, the X2 is still available with oil burners. There are no doubts in the foreseeable future the crossover will get an electrified unit.
Interior and Exterior Equipment
The list of equipment available for the 2023 BMW X2 is pretty long. Even the base version is heavily loaded. Well, the price is not so high without a reason or several. First of all, a 2.0-liter turbo engine is the most expensive part. Still, the small crossover rides on a set of 18-inch wheels. A power liftgate is also standard. Driver’s assistance is on the highest level. Parking sensors are there with the sDrive28i model. The interior comfort and safety are also keys. Seats are power-adjustable, simulated leather is covering them, and climate is controlled automatically, in two zones. You can rely on the forward collision mitigation and lane departure warning. An 8.8-inch touchscreen is the center of the dashboard and multimedia. Navigation is included, as well as seven-speaker audio. Apple CarPlay is part of the package, but not the Android Auto. BMW could fix this.
The Convenience Package is optional for the 2023 BMW X2 sDrive28i and xDrive28i. it adds power-folding mirrors with an auto-dimming, panoramic sunroof, lumbar seat support, and push-button ignition on the key. You can also add the M Sport X bundle to make the crossover sportier. The look is being upgraded thanks to larger wheels, special trimmings, a sport-tuned suspension (optionally), retuned transmission, and sport steering wheel.
2023 BMW X2 M35i
If you pick the M35i version, all the features we mentioned are included, except the panoramic roof, which is optional here. However, the M Performance badge stands for the better specs sheet. The engine cracks 300 hp and the company adds rear spoilers for a better aerodynamic and more aggressive look. Brakes are stronger and a limited-slip differential enhances traction and balance.
Here, the only optional package is Premium, with heated front seats and steering wheel, HUD, larger screen, and ambient lights. Of course, buyers can also pick a feature to add to any of the existing configurations. The 2023 BMW X2 M35i is going to offer adaptive cruise control with speed adjusting and distance keeping, adaptive dumpers, and automatic parking.
2023 BMW X2 Price and Release Date
Only minor changes are not going to affect the pricing of the crossover. The release date is set for the last quarter of 2022. Then, we will get the confirmation. The sDrive28i should start under $37,000 and buyers will have to add $2,000 for the xDrive AWD. Convenience package costs $2,250 and Premium set $3,650. The 2023 BMW X2 M35i brings both of those, power enhancement, and all that for $10,000 above the base price.
