The Japanese company didn’t waste too much time for the 2021 season. Well, there were a few updates. But, the main models for the crossover lineup are coming all-new in 2022. Those are Outlander and Eclipse Sport. The company announced the vehicle on the official site. The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will cost $23,395 and you will get a 10-year warranty on the engine. The gas mileage will be excellent for the city cruising and the crossover is going to take up to five passengers. Four trim levels are waiting for buyers and you can also add AWD option.

The first thoughts are positive. The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross comes with an exceptional warranty on powertrains. The new design will draw all kinds of buyers. The company also revisited the infotainment system, which is now at the higher level, and the center of the multimedia is an eight-inch display. On the other hand, the Eclipse Cross is a small crossover. You won’t get too much power or space. Most advanced features are optional and cost too much. The resale value is not proven yet, but we believe Mitsubishi cannot compete with other Japanese carmakers or domestic manufacturers.

Powertrains: Will There be the PHEV?

The only engine the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is going to use for now is a 1.5-liter turbo-four. A CVT sends power to front wheels. Super all-wheel control is optional. The powerplant can produce 152 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. For this class, that is not bad. However, experienced drivers will seek more energy. Even the gas mileage is not exceptional, with 26/29 mpg coming when the FWD is equipped. Higher trim levels in the combination with an AWD will drop it to 25/26 miles per gallon.

The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV might fix the situation. But, for now, it is not the part of the lineup. In the future, we are sure the plug-in hybrid is going to be there. We can see the Outlander taking advantage of this system. Mitsubishi delivers one of the cleanest configurations in the market. We are expecting the same from the Eclipse Cross.

Four trim levels are available for now. All of them are using front-wheel drive, with optional upgrade in S-AWC. The ES is the entry-level version with automatic climate, keyless entry, and 16-inch wheels. Safety system includes forward collision warning and lane departure alert. The LE is adding automatic high beams, heated seats and rain-sensing wipers. Interesting, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not standard, but you need the LE package.

The SE upgrades the safety with the rear cross-traffic alert and assistance with lane change. Blind-spot monitor is also there. Climate control is divided into two zones. Navigation is standard, and the crossover is using a few advanced options, such as fast-key entry. 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Prices

The base ES model is going to cost $23,400. It seems like a good price for the compact crossover. However, the entry-level version leaves a lot of features on the optional list, which are expected to be standard. So, for smartphone connectivity services, you will have to spend $1,400 more and take the LE version. For each next trim you need to add the same amount of money. The SE starts at $26,200 and the SEL at $27.600. Another $1,600 needs to be added for the S-AWC.

Colors and Other Options

The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross colors are Alloy Silver Metallic and Labrador Black Pearl, while White Diamond and Red Diamond will cost you $600, even at higher trim levels. Still, the SE adds Lightning Blue Metallic, while the SEL is even more colorful, with Mercury Gray and Bronze Metallic. Black and Gray leather are interior paints. Panoramic sunroof is one of the best upgrades on the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. However, it is available only on the SE trim. The SEL offers Touring package with Power Sound System with 8 speakers and body-colored bumpers, for only $2,100.
