Aviator is probably the hottest SUV in Lincoln’s lineup at the moment. The things about the plug-in hybrid versions are not cooling down. Well, with nearly 500 horsepower, it is at the center of attention more than the larger Navigator. The flagship SUV introduced a lot of novelties recently, so the 2022 Lincoln Aviator is coming unchanged. The entire lineup will be carried over. On the other hand, we can’t write off small updates, such as paintjob refreshments, or limited-edition versions.

The second generation of the Aviator arrived as the 2020 YM. Then, only a year later, the company updated the color palette and trim levels available for some colors. Now, we expect a similar dose of changes. Interior features, especially the infotainment system, will have to be up to date. A new trim level is also possible. But, the luxury 2022 Lincoln Aviator covers mostly every possible option for this segment. You have powerful units of 400 and 500 hp, including hybrid, and several trim levels, including ultra-premium Black Label with unique interior themes. The price starts above $51,000, but buyers are getting a lot of accessories that are optional on standard SUVs.

Trim Levels and Colors

Let’s check what packages the 2022 Lincoln Aviator is going to offer for sure. There are base and Reserve trims available if you want a conventional drive system. The entry-level model is nicely equipped, and highlights are 3-sone climate control, Co-Pilot360 safety, and a 10-inch display. The Reserve model upgrades it with 20-inch wheels, quad-zone acclimatization and leather upholstery. You will recognize this version thanks to the panoramic sunroof. Optionally, heated and ventilated seats are offered. The company already discontinued a few colors, while Flight Blue is the freshest shade for the Reserve model. Asher Gray and Ocean Drive Blue are there for the base SUV.

The main upgrade for the Grand Touring is the plug-in hybrid powerplant which delivers 494 horsepower. Such power needs other upgrades of the drive system, such as regenerative brakes. Another notable addition is adaptive steering. The Grand Touring package could be combined with the Black Label.

Not only that you will choose themes for the interior, but also powertrains on the new top of the class model. The 2022 Lincoln Aviator Black Label comes with the most exquisite features. For example, Revel delivers its Ultima 3D sound system with 28 speakers. Outside, 22-inch alloy wheels are making this version very aggressive. Of course, the safety also brings the latest package – Co-Pilot360 Plus. You can pick Chalet, Destination, or Flight themes for the interior. A V6 engine is standard, but you can combine Black Label with Grand Touring package, which brings PHEV drivetrain.

Powertrains and Specifications

The main source of power for the 2022 Lincoln Aviator remains a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. It is pretty potent with 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission is sending power to rear wheels by default, or both axles if you decide to pay $2,500. Grand Touring is using a plug-in hybrid configuration based on the same petrol unit. But, electric support enhances outputs to 494 horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque. AWD is the only option and the SUV makes 23 mpg. The standard edition consumes 18/26 (RWD) and 17/24 (AWD) miles per gallon. It needs 5.5 seconds for 0-60 mph acceleration, while the Grand Touring drops it to flat 5 sec.

The 2022 Lincoln Aviator is the premium mid-size SUV with three rows of seats. The base price of just $51,000 is very competitive. But, the MSRP goes up pretty rapidly with every upgrade. All-wheel drive will cost $2,500 and the Reserve trim is adding $7,000 in features. The PHEV configuration will cost you at least $70,000. Black Label adds $20,000, no matter if you are after standard or hybrid setup.

Competition

Lincoln is one of the most prestigious US luxury carmakers. Cadillac is yet to launch the mid-size SUV to compete against its archrivals. Jeep Grand Cherokee might be considered as the rival, but only with a high-end Trackhawk model. Japanese carmakers are out with hybrid units for mid-size SUVs. Lexus RX is the best-seller. Acura introduced a highly-anticipated Type S package. However, the most luxurious models are coming from Europe. Three German and one Swedish companies are leaders. The level of luxury and power coming with BMW X5 and Mercedes GLE are hard to match.
