It is the smallest model in the crossover lineup and the 2022 Jeep Renegade might be the last appearance of the funky vehicle. The rumor is not coming from the FCA. But, there is a bit of fault of chiefs in the company. We can hear the new small crossover is on the way to the production. Baby Jeep will be a subcompact version of Wrangler. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean the new model is replacing Renegade. But, the carmaker could try to shake up the market.
Renegade is quite popular outside the US. In Europe, sales are way better than in the homeland. Well, US buyers are not crazy about subcompact vehicles. On the other hand, compact SUVs are the best-sellers. A huge gap between the two classes might make not only Jeep get some changes. The Jeep Mini SUV is one of the options. But, two models can coexist if the new arrival is an off-road specialist.
The subcompact vehicle still looks good. But, the styling dates back to 2015, when the Renegade debuted. We could hear the company is planning an update, but the pandemic slowed things down. But, the 2022 Jeep Renegade might introduce the facelift, inspired by the new Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer.
2022 Jeep Renegade Specs
You cannot expect from a small crossover high outputs. Anyway, the 2022 Jeep Renegade is one of the most powerful configurations in the segment. Plus, engineers prepared two different setups for the US market. The base vehicle is getting power from a 2.4-liter mill. The same unit is under the hood of a larger Compass and it is delivering 180 hp and 175 lb-ft. Well, extra power means the company sacrificed some gas mileage. The new Renegade will come with improvements, but we won’t see the fuel economy getting better than 30 mpg. All-wheel drive is optional.
Another solution is a turbocharged inline-four setup. A 1.3-liter engine is ready to deliver similar numbers – 175 hp and 180 lb-ft. Gas mileage is better thanks to a smaller and lighter block. With the FWD, you can get 24/32 mpg. Still, premium fuel is recommended. A nine-speed gearbox can send power to all four corners. A start/stop system is included. Some drivers find it irritating, so it can be switched off.
In other markets, you can also find configurations centered around other units. The smallest one is a 1.0-liter I-3 turbo mill. A 1.3-liter engine can also come in a pair with electric motors. This one you will find as the 2022 Jeep Renegade 4xe. Experts believe the crossover is going to debut in the US as well. A 1.6 E-Torq model can use both gasoline and ethanol in some countries. Diesel offer also has two engines – 1.6 and 2.0 displacements, both based on the Multijet configurations.
2022 Jeep Renegade Redesign and New Colors
After seven years, the smallest crossover is about to be redesigned. The new look will probably find the inspiration in the latest arrivals – Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. It will be interesting to see how designers are planning to implement the solutions from large SUVs. Still, any change will refresh the look and the interest in the 2022 Jeep Renegade. It will be also interesting to see if the Uconnect 5.0 next-gen infotainment is going to debut. For now, it is less likely to see the replacement for the Renegade, especially with the question about the usage of the Cherokee nameplate.
After the redesign, the 2022 Jeep Renegade might become slightly bigger. That will leave room for the Baby Jeep to take a spot as the smallest crossover. It won’t be the first time we see a vehicle positioning between subcompact and compact classes. Nissan Rogue Sport and Chevrolet Trailblazer are already luring buyers with the combination of two segments.
More colors and packages are in the plan for the 2022 Jeep Renegade. Depending on the market, you can paint the ride in more than ten different shades. For the US, Alpine White is going to remain the base color, while each other will cost extra. At higher trim levels, unique combinations are unlocked. Like every Jeep vehicle, the subcompact Renegade is going to bring plenty of trim levels and packages. The current version brings nine configurations to start the build. Definitely, the most interesting is the Trailhawk. The all-terrain vehicle is also the most expensive version. Limited is coming with premium options, while the mid-range offer is packed with some cool configurations.
Prices
Changes on the body and under the hood mean there will be changes in the pricing. Still, Jeep has no room for the increase of the base price. We can say the main reason why Renegade is going to cost over $23,000 is a powerful engine. Limited and Trailhawk versions will be over $30,000. All-wheel drive is included for both trims.
