Why (Not) Buy the 2022 Infiniti QX50

The 2022 Infiniti QX50 is not under the spotlight with all other changes happening in this company. The Japanese carmaker is updating the entire lineup. However, not all details are yet unveiled. We know the all-new QX60 mid-size SUV is going to use parts of the Monograph concept. It is just a matter of time when will the QX80 big luxury rig enter the new generation. Meanwhile, Infiniti is developing more projects and the coupe QX55 crossover SUV definitely surprised all the fans. Finally, we can find rumors about the Infiniti truck. In the sea of novelties, we cannot find too many details about the smallest crossover in the lineup.

The QX30 subcompact SUV is discontinued. On the other hand, the QX50 is safe, since Infiniti cannot lose the presence in the best-selling luxury class. Still, the lack of update details is making the fans worry. On the other hand, the company might don’t want to unveil cards to the competition. Even if the 2022 Infiniti QX50 doesn’t bring big changes, the following model is going to bring the redesign.

So, there are two paths for the compact SUV. The first one is a complete update. We don’t think this is going to happen. The carmaker reshuffled features and introduced new trim levels, which will keep fans occupied until the next-gen model arrives in 2023.

Trim Levels: Pure, Luxe, Essential, Sensory, Autograph

The 2022 Infiniti QX50 is available in five trim levels. All of them were revisited for the current model and the company can only add more features in the future. The base offer is impressive, as we can expect from a luxury vehicle. The Pure model will come with 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, and simulated leather. A power tailgate is standard. You will love a quiet cabin thanks to the noise cancellation system. Luxe introduced the most changes recently. The package is now available with a black appearance package and a larger safety suite that includes lane departure warning. The panoramic sunroof is standard, as well as the LED fog lights. You will recognize the Luxe edition by roof rails. ProPilot is a smart system that will provide a lot of aid to drivers.

Moving to the premium versions of the premium crossover, we find the 2022 Infiniti QX50 Essential package. Navigation, upgraded audio, parking sensors with camera, heated mirrors, and road sign recognition, are just a few features that make the Essential model so special. But, there are even more impressive offers. Sensory brings large wheels, Bose sound system, leather upholstery, HUD, adaptive headlights, while the Autograph will try to impress you with an AWD and towing package.

2022 Infiniti QX50 Specs

Under the hood of the 2022 Infiniti QX50 will be the same turbocharged drivetrain we used to see. A 2.0-liter turbo-four is going to provide 270 hp and 280 lb-ft. It would be too much for the compact crossover if the QX50 is not belonging to the luxury class. It makes the vehicle competitive. Still, for the best performance, the company recommends premium fuel. A CVT gearbox sends power to front wheels and this combo returns 23/29 mpg. The QX50 also offers an all-wheel drive and a towing capacity of 3,000 pounds (towing package required).

Another option might become the 2022 Infiniti QX50 Hybrid. Crossover’s non-premium sibling, Nissan Rogue, is joining the exclusive squad of vehicles that will be able to offer 40+ mpg. Well, this system wouldn’t meet power outputs recommendations, but the impressive gas mileage is definitely a good reason to consider it as the proper option.

QX50 vs QX55

The company launched a teaser image, and soon after that the confirmation became official – the QX55 coupe crossover is coming this year. Fans of the QX50 cannot be happy with it, since their favorite model is not bringing novelties because the focus is on the upcoming coupe. But, the QX55 could serve as the inspiration for the redesign of the crossover with the conventional body lines.

The front fascia is bold and brave. It will split the market to lovers and haters. Sloped roofline and coupe styling will make Infiniti competitive to German carmakers. The downside is the cargo area. So, if it is important to you, but you don’t want to buy a bigger SUV, then the 2022 Infiniti QX50 is probably going to be a better choice than the QX55. But, the coupe crossover is new, fresh, and brings everything else better than its old sibling.

Conclusion

Do not wait to buy the 2022 Infiniti QX50. The company will probably keep attention to models already announced for the upcoming season. Instead, if you are a fan of this particular crossover, wait for the 2023 season. Then, the best features, new styling, and very likely, new engines will be on the table for the QX50.
