The full-size SUV is all-new for this season. General Motors updated the entire lineup, including Yukon, Tahoe, Suburban, and premium Escalade. A lot of changes are available inside and outside. New packages are there as well. Existing ones are revisited and enhanced with more advanced features. GM wants to cement its place as the leader in the full-size SUV segment. But, there should be something left for the 2022 GMC Yukon and upcoming models. This one will be mostly unchanged, with only minor details updated for the following season. The priority in 2022 is electrification. GMC Hummer and Cadillac Lyriq are already announced.

A couple of big V8 engines will provide enough power for the 210-inches long vehicle. The body can be extended by 15 inches for the 2022 GMC Yukon XL version. The LWB SUV is a competitor to the Chevy Suburban and Ford Expedition Max. We are expecting news about the all-new Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Besides the petrol units, there is an oil-burner available for the Yukon. SLE and SLT we can call the standard packages. If buyers want to turn the SUV into an off-roader, then the all-new AT4 package is the best choice. On the other hand, if you are after the luxury and premium features, GMC is there with the Denali model. So, everyone can find a suitable version of the 2022 Yukon.

2022 GMC Yukon – Specifications

The base configuration on the 2022 GMC Yukon is using a 5.3-liter V8 engine. It is a reliable unit for many large vehicles and General Motors keep it as part of the lineup. With 355 and 383 lb-ft, outputs are unchanged compared to the previous generation. The fuel economy is not impressive. Still, engineers have been working on improvements and now there is a special cylinder deactivation system, which will shut down some cylinders if their work is not required for better performance. Yukon will be able to pull 6,500 pounds with a 5.3-liter displacement.

On higher trim levels, buyers will find a 6.2-liter mill that produces 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. This is going to be enough for a smooth ride, no matter if you pick the 2022 GMC Yukon AT4 or Denali. The towing capacity also jumps to 8,500 pounds, making the SUV one of the best in the class. It is still behind a Ford Expedition that can pull 9,300 pounds. A 10-speed gearbox is sending power to the rear wheels. The Yukon, and its siblings, will use the IRS in the future, making the ride even smoother. A 4WD is optional.

Diesel Unit, Hybrid

Another option is a diesel engine. A 3.0-liter V6 is available on the Silverado truck and it shows a lot of promise. But, the towing capacity is not as spectacular as if you buy Ram 1500 or Ford F-150 Diesel. The 2022 Yukon could be tuned to haul more than 10k pounds. The same transmission and drive system options are available for the engine that can deliver 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of twist.

In the future, the company will definitely work on the hybrid engine. Still, it is not a priority at this moment. The electrification process will make the first debuts in 2022. The all-electric SUV lineup already has two confirmed members – Cadillac Lyriq and GMC Hummer SUV. So, the hybrid will have to wait, although the GM will have to react fast if Ford and Toyota launch their full-size models with such setups.

2022 GMC Yukon – Trim Levels and Prices

There will be four standard models available for the choice. The all-terrain version is added for 2021 lineup and the 2022 GMC Yukon will be one of the highlights of the squad. Of course, the 4WD is standard for the off-road SUV. A 2-pace transfer case is added to the transmission configuration. A set of 20-inch wheels are wrapped with the all-terrain rubber. Besides the performance, the AT4 upgrades the interior as well, this time with heated and ventilated seats.

Still, the base option remains the SLE. General Motors is using the Cruise Control, which could be upgraded with the Super Cruise system for the 2022 Yukon and Yukon XL. A 10-way power seat for driver, parking cameras, and smartphone connectivity features are standard. The company hasn’t announced details on the SLT model. We believe that leather seats will be added, as well as the power tailgate, more driver-aid accessories, and larger wheels.

The 2022 GMC Yukon Denali is the state of art version with all the advanced features the carmaker has to offer. It will cost nearly $75,000. With a few upgrades, it can easily top the $80,000 mark. The base version of the SUV is just under $52,000, while the SLT is going to add about $8k. The extended XL model is available with all the trim levels. The upgrade will cost buyers $2,700.
