The 2022 Audi Q2 is coming to the US market, which is almost certain now. The crossover is perfect for urban areas and everyday commuting. In Germany and the entire Europe, buyers are very happy with the performance. The subcompact crossover belongs to the luxury class. The company plans further upgrades, especially now when the vehicle is out for five years and the mid-cycle refresh time is on the schedule. But, if you check other Audi plans, you can assume the mini SUV is not going to be the first new model we will see by the end of this season. Electrification is the priority and the manufacturer already spent a lot of funds on E-Tron concept. The good thing is that Q2 might be electrified soon.
One of the biggest questions is the appearance in the United States. Currently, the smallest model is Q3. The subcompact class is not quite popular, especially the premium segment. That is a major concern. The 2022 Audi Q2 will offer a lot of similar features like the Q3. But, the mini SUV is also going to install a few novelties, making it perfect for younger drivers. As a small crossover, it won’t offer plenty of power for the excessive drive. One of the highlights will definitely be gas mileage.
As a luxury model, the Q2 is coming with premium materials and features. There are three trim levels available and the S-Line tops the class. not all of them will come with the Quattro AWD. The base configuration is front-wheel drive. Additional options are quite expensive. We can expect the same when Q2 arrives in the US. One of the biggest changes will happen on the infotainment system. Audi is updating MMI, although it offers some of the most advanced options. But, main rivals are not waiting. BMW is preparing the iDrive 7.0, a state of art multimedia system.
2022 Audi Q2 Accessories and Features
Some rumors are mentioning a new trim level. Currently, three versions are out: entry-level SE, mid-range Sport, and high-class S Line. The performance model, such as RS or SQ2 are possible. But, it is likely to see a reshuffling of features and making all the packages more impressive. Audi is focusing on smartphone connectivity and safety. The performance SQ2 might be there in more markets, as well as the Q2L. This long-wheelbase version is only available in China and the first impressions are quite positive. Audi is also thinking of all-electric Q2, rather than a hybrid unit. Anyway, the system is definitely based on the E-Tron concept. Some say the distance covered by batteries is going to exceed 200 miles. Zero-emission rating is definitely the biggest reason why Audi would push this project through.
2022 Audi Q2 Specs
Not only EV is offering range, but also a nice amount of power. Prototypes are reportedly using units capable of creating 100 kW and 290 Nm. Even potential buyers in the US will be happy with this output for the subcompact crossover. But, it would be a more expensive option. A 1.0-liter turbo engine is the entry-level engine. A three-cylinder powerplant will crack 115 hp and exceptional gas mileage. A six-pace manual gearbox is sending power to front wheels. Optionally, buyers can upgrade the ride with automatic DSG transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. Both setups require upper trim levels, Sport or S-Line.
More power comes with a 1.4-liter displacement. Again, turbochargers are helping this four-pot mill achieving 150 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. all-wheel drive is standard and the same transmission options are there as well. Such a setup makes the 2022 Audi Q2 sprint to 60 mph in 8.5 seconds. A 2.0-liter plant is the largest and the most powerful engine in the lineup. 190 horsepower and 230 lb-ft of torque is being produced by a turbo-four drivetrain. Again, it speeds up the time needed to reach 60 mph to just 7 seconds.
Finally, there are diesel units available for most markets. Don’t expect oil burners in the US. However, here is what buyers in this part of the world are missing. A 1.6-liter diesel is producing 115 ponies and 185 pound-feet of torque. A 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine will return similar outputs to the high-end petrol setup. Buyers can also configure it with 150 and 190 horsepower setup being offered.
The big question is if the 2022 Audi Q2 can meet the demands of US buyers. The Q3 is already out and the German company is not quite happy with its performance. Buyers are keener on larger crossovers and SUVs, Q5 and Q7 by the Audi. The fact is – there is no need for another subcompact crossover here. We will see what the company is planning once the Q2 enters dealerships in the rest of the world. It should happen early in 2022.
