2021 Nissan Armada Minor Updates, Diesel Engine is Possible

Armada is the largest of Nissan’s SUV. The company recently launched a new generation, but in a year we could see the first update. Well, changes in the full-size segment are not so frequent, and since the SUV is new, the 2021 Nissan Armada will arrive mostly unchanged. The company is focusing on its new luxury model, Infiniti QX80. The non-premium version could take some stuff from the new Monograph concept in the future. But, since this one is the platform for full-size SUVs, these details will be modest.

One of the major changes could happen under the hood. The fans are asking about the 2021 Nissan Armada diesel, but there is no response yet. The Japanese carmaker already delivers a big vehicle with a diesel engine in the USA, and that is the Titan XD truck. Towing capacity and gas mileage are taking advantage of these drivetrains, but emissions regulations are stumbling block.

2021 Nissan Armada Changes

The full-size SUV will keep dimensions. The new generation enlarged the overall length, but the wheelbase is slightly shorter. But, an inch for the 208-in long vehicle is not a big deal. The 2021 Nissan Armada brings an eight-seat configuration. The SUV can be turned into a 7-seater with a couple of captain’s chairs replacing the bench in the middle row.

The company will revisit the infotainment system. Still, key parts will remain unchanged, including an 8-inch touchscreen display and the premium Bose audio available for the base trim. Update of the Apple CarPlay and navigation are the most notable changes for the 2021 Armada.

Outside, we could see a few new details. Grille, a new set of rims, or headlights could get a refresh. But, only true fans are going to notice that, since standard equipment remains pretty much the same. Only upper trim levels can receive new features and accessories.

Trim Levels

There are four trims available on the current Armada. The upcoming vehicle could add another one, but it is still only a rumor. We can hear speculations speaking of 2021 Nissan Armada Nismo, with a high-performance diesel engine. However, the Japanese carmaker is currently focused on other things, for example, Infiniti QX80. The addition of the high-output version wouldn’t change too much.

The base vehicle will be available in the SV trim. LED lights, 18-inch wheels, automatic brakes, and intelligent cruise control are highlights of this model. We already mentioned that Bose delivers premium audio right from the start. Four USB ports are available for the SV, as well as for the upper SL trim level. However, this one adds larger 20-inch wheels and a power liftgate. A 360-degree monitor has intelligent functions, and leather-appointed seats are boosting the overall comfort. Memory settings will remember seat and steering wheel positions. Wooden trim and black carpeting will make the Armada look like its premium sibling.

2021 Nissan Armada Platinum and Armada Platinum Reserve

The highlight of the Platinum trim level is a three-zone entertaining system with a DVD player and huge monitors for rear seats. More intelligent functions are also available, such as rearview mirror and lane intervention. You will also find one more USB port on this version. Front seats come with cooling and heating functions. The 2021 Nissan Armada Platinum Reserve upgrades the previous trim level with unique wheels that show dark chrome details, which are also available on the grille, door handles, and inside the cabin. Leather-appointed seats come in two-tone contrasting colors.

While there are a lot of options to build the 2021 Nissan Armada, the engine room will get only a proven 5.6-liter V8 engine. Well, this one is pretty capable and reliable, so engineers don’t have a lot of troubles to pick up the drivetrain for the big SUV. The engine is delivering 390 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque and sends them to rear wheels through a seven-speed automatic gearbox. An all-wheel drive is available for all trim levels, and it costs $3,000. With the 8,500 pounds, Armada is offering average towing capacity for this class.

One of the updates we would like to see is the 2021 Nissan Armada Diesel. If the vehicle borrows the drivetrain from the big truck, Titan XD, it would make the situation in this category of SUVs more interesting. A 5.0-liter turbodiesel is capable to deliver 310 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque. This would increase the towing capacity of Armada to 11,000 pounds, making it the most capable SUV for hauling.

2021 Nissan Armada Release Date, Prices

Mostly unchanged, the 2021 Nissan Armada will enter the market in the second half next year. Only a diesel appearance would require some spectacular debut at a big auto show. The MSRP of the 2021 Armada will start at the same level as before. Base models are available at $47,000, the SL adds $5,000, while Platinum and Platinum Reserve are getting a slight push with new technologies added to these packages. Currently, you need to spend at least $60k to get one of the premium models.
