2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS Review: Models and Prices

379 0

The German company is making some cuts in the GLS lineup, and we can’t wait to see what Mercedes is preparing for their fans in the US. There are four versions available and the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS is carrying over all the options. The base model is the GLS 450 and the mid-range package is GLS 580. Two high-end models are wearing AMG and Maybach badges. Those SUVs are drawing attention with their styling and performance.

Changes on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS won’t be big. So, we can expect the price to stay put as well. Of course, a small reshuffle of options and safety features will make all the packages richer. There is also room for improvement. The biggest downside is the price, but you get the premium German luxury. The GLS is not a bad performer off the road as well. It seats 7 persons and experts consider the SUV as one of the most comfortable models in the class thanks to premium materials.

Entry-Level Version

You will find the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 as the least expensive model. Watch out – it is a trap. The GLS is a full-size SUV and you expect to get a V8 under the hood, especially having in mind you are buying the luxury model. Unfortunately, the base drivetrain for the GLS is a 3.0-liter inline-six. Turbochargers fix the outputs and the SUV delivers 365 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque. However, that is not enough for the full-size luxury unit. the EQ Boost system enhances the gas mileage and the base configuration is the fuel-friendly edition with 18/24 mpg.

An all-wheel drive is standard all across the lineup, which makes the situation with the GLS 450 a bit better. An adaptive air suspension system lets you configure the best setup and enhance comfort and maneuvering. Highlights of the base model are 20-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, and a hands-free liftgate. Black and White are standard paintjobs, and all others cost $750-$1,750. There are also optional larger wheels. Even the AMG Line package is offering some of the features from the high-end version.

The GLS 580 is a true configuration for the full-size luxury SUV. Well, the price already crosses $100k mark. But, you will get the premium German vehicle. A V8 engine is delivering 483 horsepower and 515 lb-ft of torque. That is enough to speed up to 60 mph in just 5 seconds. A bi-turbo engine also features the EQ Boost technology, but it won’t fix the issues with the gas mileage. A V8 is very thirsty, and the best you can get is 20 mpg on the highway.

Besides the 4.0-liter engine, there are also exterior and interior upgrades to make the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 more aggressive. For example, 21-inch wheels and leather upholstery are the things that can’t be unnoticed. Plus, the package comes with illuminated running boards, massage seats, and a soft-close door system. Only premium color options require an additional payment. You can also make the GLS 580 pretty special with a set of 23-inch wheels.

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS : AMG and Maybach Packages

The AMG is usually the best in class version of every Mercedes. Well, it was the case with the GLS, until the company decided to add the Maybach version. But, due to its exclusivity, the package could be cut from the lineup. Still, it makes the full-size SUV one of the most luxurious builds in the market.

But, let’s check first what the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS AMG 63 brings. That is the most powerful engine setup in the first place. A 4.0-liter mill is tuned to crack 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque (still not good enough to be one of the most powerful SUVs in the market). It is also the fastest model that needs only 4 seconds to sprint 0-60 mph. Of course, every part needs special attention, including the revisit of a nine-speed automatic transmission, suspension, brakes, and AWD system. You will find drive controls on the steering wheel. AMG seats are delivering a more comfortable ride. Even the cupholders can heat or cool beverages. The pricing starts from $135,000 and with optional upgrades, the MSRP exceeds $150k.

The only model that beats that is the Mercedes Maybach GLS 600. We still don’t know if this one is going to be available for the 2024 YM. The base price is over $160,000. Still, as a unique craft, Mercedes doesn’t offer too many options for the Maybach model. The 4.0-l engine is downpowered compared to the AMG version. It delivers “only” 558 hp, which makes it slower in the 0-60 mph acceleration (4.8 seconds). A two-row layout maximizes comfort. The company makes it even more special with heat and massage seats. Nappa leather is all around the cabin. The cargo capacity is not as generous as with the standard models, since the rear row is not foldable. The MBUX  infotainment is getting special treatment and the unique 27-speaker Burmester audio system.
