2021 Hyundai Kona Changes, Trim Levels, Safety

2021 Hyundai Kona Drivetrains
The new crossover is going to be available in standard gasoline variants and with the electric unit under the hood. The late one is more expensive since it reaches the price of the mid-size SUVs. But, if you choose an entry-level 2021 Hyundai Kona, you will get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The power output is slightly above the average, with 150 hp. Kona also adds 135 lb-ft of torque. Further improvements in the transmission and drive system will boost the fuel economy. The next edition will gain extra miles from a current level (30 mpg).
There is another setup where the petrol unit creates energy. A 1.6-liter turbo-four is capable to produce 175 hp and 195 lb-ft while keeping the same fuel economy for the highway drive (27 mph). However, the consumption jumps in urban conditions, so the combined fuel economy is 28 mpg. Front-wheel drive is standard, while the new Kona is also going to offer all-wheel drive as optional setup.
Electric Motor, Extended Range
If the new generation of the crossover starts with the 2021 Hyundai Kona, expect a boost on the electric range. The current model gained more than 20 miles from the latest update. Now, the EV for the 2020 season can run 280 miles in a single charge. The new update will make it reach at least 300 miles.
The current specs sheet says the electric engine is producing 200 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. A huge 64-kWh battery needs 10 hours to recharge on the home power. If you are doing that on superchargers, then it takes only 90 minutes, while in 45 minutes, you can get enough energy for the 200-mile run. Max speed of the 2021 Hyundai Kona electric will be at least 100 mph, and the vehicle will sprint 0-60 mph in just 7 seconds.
Pros and Cons
By reading all these lines, you could figure out what are the advantages of the subcompact crossover. Well, there are two options – petrol and electric. The first one is one of the cheapest models in the market. The EV is expensive, so it is the technology and development of the unconventional system. But, the Kona EV doesn’t have any true rival, besides the Kia Niro EV. Small dimensions allow drivers to maneuver with the vehicle in tight areas, while the parking is not such a problem.
Definitely, there are some downsides to this model that 2021 Hyundai Kona is not going to fix. The subcompact vehicle is not offering too much space, especially behind the front row. Rear seats are cramped, while the cargo space doesn’t exist. The appearance of the crossover is making people love it or hate it.
If you want to look for alternatives, it is not easy to find them in the same class. Tesla Model 3 is not a crossover, neither is Nissan Leaf. Even if they are, the new Kona will beat their ranges to become the best in all-electric class.
