One Dodge less in the market. FCA is discontinuing Journey. There is one more chance for fans to refresh their ride and purchase the SUV. The 2021 Dodge Journey is going to be unchanged. Well, the final edition package is possible with a special tuning. But, all other things are the same.
The most exciting version of the mid-size crossover SUV is the 2021 Dodge Journey GT. It replaces a four-cylinder Tigershark engine with a V6, popular Pentastar. More options for all other trims are also available. There are three configurations with a smaller block: SE, SE Value, and Crossroad.
Since the 2021 YM is the last edition of the SUV, that is the main reason for the purchase. You won’t have another chance to get a new vehicle. On the other hand, one of the rumors is speaking about the Hellcat edition. Well, this one will be worth waiting for. But, that is the only thing why would we recommend buying this vehicle.
Pros and Cons
When the Journey arrived back in 2008, many experts thought the Dodge lineup is going to revive. After only three seasons, the company updated the SUV. The facelift brought a few new things, including a V6 engine. But, after that, only modest modifications were made. And the styling of the Journey was interesting only when it appeared back in 2008. The company didn’t invest too much into this SUV and now they are saving even more by discontinuing it.
The last edition might be worth of purchase, but only if the company prepares a special edition. One of the options is to see the 2021 Dodge Journey Hellcat. On the other hand, we think it is unlikely. Journey will remain the only Dodge model, besides Grand Caravan, never to get this engine. It would make the price worth of speaking. The driving impression is poor, there are no aid features, and the quality of interior materials must be better.
On the other hand, the 2021 Dodge Journey is a pretty spacious SUV. It comes with a three-row layout, leaving enough room for cargo. The total space is 67.6 cubic feet when seats are folded. When the third row is up, there is no too much room behind it. The performance becomes slightly better with a V6 engine. Unfortunately, the SUV is not going to live enough to get a new Uconnect 5 infotainment.
Under the hood of the 2021 Dodge Journey will be the same four-pot unit as before. A 2.4-liter unit is also called Tigershark, and it delivers 173 hp and 166 lb-ft. This is not enough for some smaller crossovers. The mid-size vehicle needs more power. Since it is big and heavy, the fuel economy drops to 22 mpg. Again, some mid-size SUVs with V6 can return a similar mileage. The engine uses regular gas. The towing capacity is just 1,000 pounds.
A more serious performance comes from a 3.6-liter V6 engine. Pentastar unit is ready to produce more power and torque, making the Journey more interesting to drive. However, it is available only for the GT model, which costs $10,000 more than the base one. A six-speed automatic transmission is a power router. Well, this one is also old and needs a replacement. Other similar vehicles in the family are already using an eight-speed gearbox. Towing capacity and acceleration times are better.
Goodbye in Style – 2021 Dodge Journey Hellcat
Journey is not an impressive model for more than ten years. One thing could make it interesting to buyers in 2021 – the Hellcat engine. Although the chances are tiny, we will wait until the official release to see if it is going to happen or not. A 6.2-liter V8 supercharged unit is already making the Jeep Grand Cherokee the most powerful SUV with an internal combustion engine in the world. Recently, FCA teased its fans with a short TRX video. Well, the SUV is not going to carry the Hellcat engine for too long, since the 2021 Dodge Journey is the last time it will be in production. But, the sign out would be in style with a 700+ hp rated version.
2021 Dodge Journey Trim Levels
The base edition of the 2021 Dodge Journey will remain the same, with a four-cylinder engine, cruise control, 17-inch wheels, and the price tag above $23,000. Ten color options are available for the SE Value package, including one premium – tri-coat White Noise. Standard 2021 Dodge Journey SE is going to cost about $600 above the Value version. Special 17-inch and 19-inch wheels are optional upgrades.
The Crossroad model adds features in a total value of $6,000. The leather interior is one of the best things you can get from it. Also, there is a climate zone for each row, a large multimedia screen, and a unique suspension. The only model that brings more is GT. However, the main upgrade is a V6 engine.
