2021 Chevy K5 Blazer Comes With Z71 Off-Road Package

1936 0

The comeback of the Blazer SUV caused different opinions. While most people were happy because of the return, some fans complained about its rigidness. The SUV is built on a unibody architecture. We expected to see a ladder frame, so the vehicle could compete with Ford Bronco. Nevertheless, several sources mentioned the 2021 Chevy K5 Blazer as the revisited version, but we can be 100% sure that General Motors is not creating such a platform only for this SUV. Instead, the Z71 package will improve the off-road capabilities of the vehicle.

The competition between GM and Ford never stops. However, the bow-tie company is yet to respond to the new Bronco. On the other hand, the legendary SUV is not out yet, although the debut was planned as 2020 YM. This leaves a lot of room for speculations. But, the 2021 Chevy K5 Blazer is not a rival to Bronco.

The upcoming model is coming unchanged. The only update in the lineup might be the introduction of the Z71 off-road edition. But, it would suit better to the some SUV that uses a ladder frame. On the other hand, more off-roading capabilities won’t make any bad things to the K5 Blazer.

What is Blazer K5?

General Motors brought back the Blazer. It caused a lot of other rumors and speculations. The legendary nameplate was in production last time in 1994. Ever since fans are dreaming about the comeback. Of course, the modern 2021 Chevy K5 Blazer can’t be the same as its predecessor, which was discontinued because of its efficiency. Modernized, the SUV is ready to conquer the market again.

But, we remember the K5 Blazer as a full-size SUV with excellent off-road skills. That is why the Z71 package is causing so much attention. The old model was a truck-based SUV. Three generations in 25-year production were upgrading the offer. The last Blazer was discontinued not too earlier before Ford Bronco. The company replaced it with Tahoe, which expanded the offer to the four-door styling.

2021 Chevy K5 Blazer Z71

The 2021 K5 Blazer Z71 is going to be the 4×4 SUV with superb off-road performance. The package is also available for other big rigs in the GM’s family, including Colorado and Silverado trucks. Well, the new arrival is still a rumor, but the company needs to do something to upgrade the modern K5 Blazer. Unfortunately, the ZR2 is an even meaner bundle, that might be an option for the mid-cycle update.

The first renders are out. Fans were creative and the new 2021 Chevy K5 Blazer Z71 looks very attractive. The eye-catching styling and upgrades all around the body will draw a lot of attention. Still, this is not the official version, so we don’t have any estimations on the capabilities. Skid plates will protect the body, while unique shocks are going to lift the SUV and make it more eye-catching. Of course, it will make Blazer move easier over obstacles.

Engines, Hybrid

There are already three configurations available for the mid-size SUV, so there is no need to add anything else. Well, a hybrid might be interesting, if engineers manage to tune it for the 2021 Chevy K5 Blazer. The base setup includes a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a nine-speed auto gearbox. The shifting is smooth and the combination is good for 193 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque. A front-wheel drive is the only option, so the small block is not going to be under the hood of the Z71 version for sure.

A more powerful 2.0-liter turbo-four is also unlikely to feature for the off-road model. But, the engine is upgrading outputs to 230 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque and adds an all-wheel drive as the optional system. Finally, there is a reliable 3.6-liter V6 with 308 hp, which is a favorite to appear as the main drivetrain of the 2021 Chevy K5 Blazer Z71. Front- and all-wheel drive are available, and the fuel economy is not too bad, reaching 22 mpg combined.

Packages and Prices

The new Z71 model will join the existing lineup, which is not going to suffer any change. The base edition is L and integration with smart devices was a priority. The upgrades are coming with three different LT packages. The LT3 is there with a turbo engine, leather upholstery, and heated seats. The RS is a sport package with a special suspension setup and V6 engine. Navigation is standard. There are no too many upgrades left, but the K5 Blazer Premier will use every single feature to enhance the offer. Here, you will find ambient lighting, Bose audio, and ventilated front buckets.

The pricing starts at $30,000 with a destination fee. The LT will add $3,500 and more, depending on the level you pick. Premier ill hit $45,000 and that is the most expensive offer until the Z71 comes out. Nevertheless, we expect it under $50k, since the off-road specialist will focus more on the capabilities, than premium equipment.
