The new 2020 Chevy Trailblazer is the newest crossover SUV for GM’s lineup. The company is expected to launch it during next year and then we will get the full pricing list. We will have to be patient to learn all the pros and cons of the new Trailblazer, including the towing capacity and gas mileage. Fans in the USA could buy this SUV in the previous decade. After the pause in the 2010s, the nameplate returns, but as a compact model. Chevrolet has revealed the new crossover, but many info is still missing. Some rumors even claim that the delay is possible and the 2020 Trailblazer could be here as 2021 model year.

There are also speculations regarding the hybrid drivetrain. Well, Chevrolet and GM are still quiet about this. Whatsoever, the more intriguing news is about the 2020 Chevy Trailblazer SS model. As soon as the vehicle had the premiere, rumors started to swirl around. The new crossover takes the position in the compact class. Previously, Trailblazer was a mid-size SUV until three-row Traverse replaced it. Now, GM is already in the small SUV market with Equinox. But, if the Chevy Blazer could take the position in the mid-size segment, where is already Traverse, then we believe the new Trailblazer could take the position between Blazer and Equinox.

Release Date Rumors

The 2020 Chevy Trailblazer debuted earlier in 2019, but the company still owe us a lot of details about the crossover. The compact vehicle will definitely be one of the starts of the upcoming season, but fans are afraid of a delay. Some experts say the GM will postpone its release date to make space for some other debuts and avoid internal competition. On the other hand, it will give some time to engineers to fix all possible issues on the compact SUV. We still believe the new model is coming for the 2020 season. Still, don’t be surprised if we see the Trailblazer running in 2021.

2020 Chevy Trailblazer vs Blazer

The comeback of the Chevrolet Blazer announced more new arrivals. The first in the line is the 2020 Chevy Trailblazer. However, the question is – where it will fit? The upcoming vehicle will be a smaller and sportier sibling. Blazer is the mid-size SUV with seating capacity for five persons. Traverse is slightly larger with room for the third row. The Trailblazer will be somewhere between Blazer and Equinox. Dimensions gap between its two siblings is nearly 10 inches in total length and 6 inches on the wheelbase. So, there is room for the new SUV to position itself between them.

2020 Chevy Trailblazer SS – Is It Possible?

The most interesting stories about the crossover are about the 2020 Chevy Trailblazer SS version. Currently, there is only one SuperSport model in Chevrolet’s fleet. Well, that is Camaro. On the other hand, we can hear rumors about Silverado getting the performance-oriented version with the same badge. But, it is unlikely to happen. On the other hand, the SUV segment is the best-selling at the moment, so we can’t write off any upgrades that will make Chevy models different from their competition. Chevy Blazer SS is also possible, so we believe in its smaller version as well. For this kind of vehicle, the company will need to update the engine room with a powerful engine. Also, both exterior and interior will have to follow the aggressive stance of the SS badge.

Engines and Specs

The new 2020 Chevy Trailblazer debuted, but one of the things we didn’t learn is its performance. The company announced the sporty crossover without too many details. But, few existing units could fit the compact crossover’s engine room. We believe the favorite is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four mill with the capability to produce 250 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The other possibility is the same entry-level engine the Blaze SUV is using. It is a 2.5-l four-pot drivetrain that bursts 195 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque. GM is not going out with a V6 for the base crossover. With the front wheel-drive on, the new Trailblazer will be a very fuel-friendly model, achieving nearly 30 mpg on highways. All-wheel drive is definitely coming as an optional feature.

Hybrid

Towing capacity is not going to make you buy this crossover. If you need to haul a lot of cargo, look at some bigger models that can pull 5,000 pounds. Trailblazer could go up to 2,000 lbs. On the other hand, already respectable mpg could get a boost with the 2020 Chevy Trailblazer Hybrid. Again, the company is not officially out with this one yet, but they will start hybridization from the compact segment. So, Equinox and Trailblazer are favorites to be the first models with such technology among GM’s SUV fleet. With an electric motor, the vehicle will gain more miles, especially in the city drive. It will be smaller and lighter than the Blazer. So, the 30 mpg of combined mileage for the Trailblazer Hybrid is not an impossible mission.
